Woollen and Worsted Woven Fabric Design explains and provides answers to many of the technical and practical problems encountered in the development and design of woollen and worsted woven fabrics. Today it is as essential as ever to design, develop and produce saleable and commercially sound woven fabrics within considerable financial restraints. However, in the teaching of woven fabric design, emphasis appears to have shifted away from the practicalities of cloth construction and design development. The formulae and calculations used in the weaving industry are clearly set out in the text, with numerous worked examples.

Excerpt from Treatise on the Designing and Construction of Woven Fabrics The designing paper mostly in use is laid off in squares con taining 8 x 8, or 64 blocks. The sizes of the blocks and squares vary according to the different sizes preferred by each designer and according to the kind of fabrics to be designed. The point paper, designated by 8 x 8, is usually made with squares of 1 in size, and larger. If a design is to be made which requires a large number Of threads the designing paper with the smaller squares is to be preferred; if, on the other hand, designs are to be made which require but a small number of threads, the paper with the larger squares is preferable. The number of blocks to the square warpwise is always indicated first. Other designing papers used are 8 x 6, 8 x 7, 8 x 9, 8 x 10, 8 x x 16, 4 x 12, 6 x 12, 10 x 10, 12 x x 12, etc., etc. The heavy lines, or squares, serve as a unit for measure ment, as well as in helping to count Off the required number of blocks. In this way they help to find the size of auv design on point paper, at a glance. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Understanding and predicting the structure and properties of woven textiles is important for achieving specific performance characteristics in various woven applications. Woven textiles are used in a range of products such as apparel, technical and industrial textiles. Woven textile structure: Theory and applications provides comprehensive coverage of the structure, behaviour, modeling and design of woven fabrics and their relevance to the textile industry. The first group of chapters review the fundamental principles of woven fabric structures. Part two discusses the mechanics of woven fabrics, topics include shrinkage in woven fabrics, yarn behaviour in woven fabrics and bending behaviour of woven fabrics. Part three presents a selection of chapters on design engineering of woven fabrics, themes such as textile product design methods and modelling for woven fabric design are covered. A final group of chapters is dedicated to addressing practical applications of woven fabrics.Woven textile structure: Theory and applications is essential reading for designers, engineers and technicians involved in the design, manufacture and use of woven textiles and garments. It will also bebeneficial to academics and students. Provides comprehensive coverage of the fundamentals of woven fabric structure including geometrical modeling Examines mechanisms of woven fabric structure featuring shrinkage, buckling, bending and creasing behaviour of textiles Illustrates mathematical modeling and building predictive models for textile product design incorporating validation and testing
