De Canonizing Music History written by Vesa Kurkela and has been published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2009 with Music categories.

This book is about musical canons and de-canonizing music history. Whenever music is critically examined, it is disciplined, ordered, and corrected; the canon functions as a basic tool in defining the scope of this disciplining. In recent music history, however, there has emerged a strong need to redefine the limits of the disciplining and to criticize the principles of canon formation. De-canonizing can be seen as a tool in this critique. This book also shows how different styles and traditions in music have formed their own canons. Its main goal is to deconstruct these canons: to describe, analyze and problematize them in their variety. De-canonizing also refers to artistic crossover and cross-border encounters. In this book art meets popular, ethnic meets education, and avantgarde meets mainstream. Here musical past meets modern musicology, its various trendsâ "and canons.

Foucault Management And Organization Theory written by Alan McKinlay and has been published by SAGE this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1997-12-12 with Business & Economics categories.

This volume draws together critical assessments of Michel Foucault′s contribution to our understanding of the making and remaking of the modern organization. The volume provides a valuable summary of Foucault′s contribution to organization theory, which also challenges the conventions of traditional organizational analysis. By applying Foucauldian concepts such as discipline, surveillance and power/knowledge, the authors shed new light on the genesis of the modern organization and raise fresh questions about organization theory. The bureaucratic career is, for example, analyzed as a disciplinary device, a mechanism that seeks to alter rational choice rather than constrain bodies. This raises questions about Foucault′s linking of the modern organization′s birth with the enlightenment. Other contributions review the impact of totalizing managerial discourses and the limits and possiblities of resistance, and question the profound pessimism of Foucault. The volume concludes by examining the implications of Foucault′s later work in which he suggests that people are much freer than they feel.

Drawing on the work of Michel Foucault, this book reconceptualizes the field of human resource management (HRM) and explores an alternative politics and ethics of work. The central thesis is that personnel//HRM techniques play a crucial role in constituting the self, in defining the nature of work, and in organizing and controlling the workforce. Human resource management, it is argued, comprises a nexus of disciplinary practices - a technology of power - aimed at making employees' behaviour and performance predictable and calculable, in a word, `manageable'. The author analyzes a wide range of HRM procedures, including job evaluation and ranking, selection, appraisal and self-assessment, relating these to

When I Was A Child written by Vilhelm Moberg and has been published by Minnesota Historical Society Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2014 with Swedish fiction categories.

At the beginning of the twentieth century, in the poverty-stricken Swedish region of Småland, young Valter, the son of a soldier, explores the world around him and watches his older brothers emigrate to America. In this novel of the life of a farm boy, first published in three volumes in 1946, Vilhelm Moberg sensitively explores his own childhood. When Valter, a boy with great imagination, describes the exciting things he sees so vividly, he is punished for lying, so he learns to write his stories down instead. He willingly leaves school and helps support his family by working in lumber camps and a glass factory. His father’s ill health and death bring even harder times. Through all his toil, he debates whether to honor his father’s wish and remain in Sweden to support his mother. With gentle irony and a loving knowledge of the landscape, the people, and the larger issue of class struggle, Moberg offers American readers a deeply moving view of the other side of Swedish immigration.
