Trauma Doesn T Stop At The School Door written by Karen Gross and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2020 with Education categories.

This book explores how educational institutions have failed to recognize and effectively address the symptoms of trauma in students of all ages. Given the prevalence of traumatic events in our world, including the COVID-19 pandemic, Gross argues that it is time for educational institutions and those who work within them to change their approaches and responses to traumatic symptoms that manifest in students in schools and colleges. These changes can alter how and what we teach, how we train teachers, how we structure our calendars and create our schedules, how we address student behavior and disciplinary issues, and how we design our physical space. Drawing on real-life examples and scenarios that will be familiar to educators, this resource provides concrete suggestions to assist institutions in becoming trauma-responsive environments, including replicable macro- and microchanges. Book Features: Focuses on trauma within the early childhood-adult educational pipeline. Explains how trauma is often cumulative, with recent traumatic events often triggering a revival of traumatic symptomology from decades ago. Provides clarifications of currently used terms and scoring systems and offers new and alternative approaches to identifying and ameliorating trauma. Includes visual images to augment the descriptions in the text.

My name is Phil Dorman and I would like to share some knowledge with you. I have Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and Dissociative Disorders (DD). These disorders caused through sadistic child abuse, childhood trauma, normal stress, trauma due to combat actions, and overworking for thirty years, have plagued me for over nine years. I'm not a doctor or in the medical professional, you might say I'm writing from on the inside. Without a formal degree in pain, trauma, stress, and suffering, unless the count of forty years of actual personal experience is considered, I too am searching for answers. Many have learned through actual experiences and having spent six years of my life almost totally locked up in my mind, may just qualify as unsurpassed wisdom. With my vow to increase the knowledge base for the common person about PTSD and its causes, patiently I waited for my reprieve from this dungeon. Thinking that this information would help to bring order and logic for loved ones to see, understand, and begin to cope with some of the problems that can devastate a family from these disorders. Coping, the most powerful process, the whole family can learn about any disease or a disorder brings a sense of calm during a mighty storm. These disorders have torn both my immediate and extended family apart. This knowledge can produce a more favorable outcome for your family. You need knowledge in order to take action.

Winner of the Victorian Prize for Literature, Sarah Krasnostein’s The Trauma Cleaner: One Woman’s Extraordinary Life in the Business of Death, Decay, and Disaster is the fascinating biography of one of the people responsible for tidying up homes in the wake of natural—and unnatural—catastrophes and fatalities. Homicides and suicides, fires and floods, hoarders and addicts. When properties are damaged or neglected, it falls to Sandra Pankhurst, founder of Specialized Trauma Cleaning (STC) Services Pty. Ltd. to sift through the ashes or sweep up the mess of a person’s life or death. Her clients include law enforcement, real estate agents, executors of deceased estates, and charitable organizations representing victimized, mentally ill, elderly, and physically disabled people. In houses and buildings that have fallen into disrepair, Sandra airs out residents’ smells, throws out their weird porn, their photos, their letters, the last traces of their DNA entombed in soaps and toothbrushes. The remnants and mementoes of these people’s lives resonate with Sandra. Before she began professionally cleaning up their traumas, she experienced her own. First, as a little boy, raised in violence and excluded from the family home. Then as a husband and father, drag queen, gender reassignment patient, sex worker, small businesswoman, and trophy wife. In each role she played, all Sandra wanted to do was belong. The Trauma Cleaner is the extraordinary true story of an extraordinary person dedicated to making order out of chaos with compassion, revealing the common ground Sandra Pankhurst—and everyone—shares with those struck by tragedy.

The contributors to this volume re-think established insights of memory and trauma theory and enrich those studies with diverse Asian texts, critically analyzing literary and cultural representations of Asia and its global diasporas. They broaden the scope of memory and trauma studies by examining how the East/ West binary delimits horizons of "trauma" by excluding Asian texts. Are memory and trauma always reliable registers of the past that translate across cultures and nations? Are supposedly pan-human experiences of suffering disproportionately coloured by eurocentric structures of region, reason, race, or religion? How are Asian texts and cultural producers yet viewed through biased lenses? How might recent approaches and perspectives generated by Asian literary and cultural texts hold purchase in the 21st century? Critically meditating on such questions, and whether existing concepts of memory and trauma accurately address the histories, present states, and futures of the non-Occidental world, this volume unites perspectives on both dominant and marginalized sites of the broader Asian continent. Contributors explore the complex intersections of literature, history, ethics, affect, and social justice across East, South, and Southeast Asia, and on Asian diasporas in Australia and the USA. They draw on yet diverge from "Orientalism" and "Area Studies" given today’s need for nuanced analytical methodologies in an era defined by the COVID-19 global pandemic. This book will be of great interest to students and scholars invested in memory and trauma studies, comparative Asian studies, diaspora and postcolonial studies, global studies, and social justice around contemporary identities and 20th and 21st century Asia.
