Goldhagen Und Die Deutsche Linke written by and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1997 with History categories.

A book written by eight authors, some of them affiliated with various left-wing organizations before 1989, which emerged from discussions held by them following the publication of Goldhagen's book. States that the left-wing press in Germany reacted to Goldhagen's book and its supposed allegation of collective guilt with similar arguments as the moderate and right-wing press, though it defended the working class rather than all the Germans: Nazism was a capitalist plot against labor, and labor solidly opposed it. Shows that in fact the workers and their parties were also antisemitic and pro-Nazi. Goldhagen's chief merit was to show that the individual was free to decide how to act despite social pressure. However, he did not recognize the vital role of biological antisemitism as the basis of German identity and unity; and though he correctly linked forced labor with the Nazis' image of Jews as unproductive parasites, he did not see that they were wiping out the Jews as the representatives of "abstract" capital in favor of a utopia of "blood, soil, and labor": Nazism was an anti-capitalist, not a capitalist, revolution. Antisemitism is still rife on both the Right and the Left. German liberals' appreciation for Goldhagen and their willingness to deal with the memory of the Holocaust is due to a feeling of discontinuity between then and now: the blacker Germany's past crimes, the brighter the "new Germany".

From Occupation To Occupy written by Sina Arnold and has been published by Indiana University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2022-09-06 with Religion categories.

The recent rise of antisemitism in the United States has been well documented and linked to groups and ideologies associated with the far right. In From Occupation to Occupy, Sina Arnold argues that antisemitism can also be found as an "invisible prejudice" on the left. Based on participation in left-wing events and demonstrations, interviews with activists, and analysis of left-wing social movement literature, Arnold argues that a pattern for enabling antisemitism exists. Although open antisemitism on the left is very rare, there are recurring instances of "antisemitic trivialization," in which antisemitism is not perceived as a relevant issue in its own right, leading to a lack of empathy for Jewish concerns and grievances. Arnold's research also reveals a pervasive defensiveness against accusations of antisemitism in left-wing politics, with activists fiercely dismissing the possibility of prejudice against Jews within their movements and invariably shifting discussions to critiques of Israel or other forms of racism. From Occupation to Occupy offers potential remedies for this situation and suggests that a progressive political movement that takes antisemitism seriously can be a powerful force for change in the United States.

Visions Of Community In Nazi Germany written by Martina Steber and has been published by Oxford University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2018-07-16 with History categories.

When the Nazis seized power in Germany in 1933 they promised to create a new, harmonious society under the leadership of the Fuumlhrer, Adolf Hitler. The concept of Volksgemeinschaft - 'the people's community' - enshrined the Nazis' vision of society'; a society based on racist, social-Darwinist, anti-democratic, and nationalist thought. The regime used Volksgemeinschaft to define who belonged to the National Socialist 'community' and who did not. Being accorded the status of belonging granted citizenship rights, access to the benefits of the welfare state, and opportunities for advancement, while these who were denied the privilege of belonging lost their right to live. They were shamed, excluded, imprisoned, murdered. Volksgemeinschaft was the Nazis' project of social engineering, realized by state action, by administrative procedure, by party practice, by propaganda, and by individual initiative. Everyone deemed worthy of belonging was called to participate in its realization. Indeed, this collective notion was directed at the individual, and unleashed an enormous dynamism, which gave social change a particular direction. The Volksgemeinschaft concept was not strictly defined, which meant that it was rather marked by a plurality of meaning and emphasis which resulted in a range of readings in the Third Reich, drawing in people from many social and political backgrounds. Visions of Community in Nazi Germany scrutinizes Volksgemeinschaft as the Nazis' central vision of community. The contributors engage with individual appropriations, examine projects of social engineering, analyze the social dynamism unleashed, and show how deeply private lives were affected by this murderous vision of society.

Nie Wieder Deutschland written by Jan Gerber and has been published by ça ira this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2010-10-01 with Philosophy categories.

Against Old Europe written by Raphael Schlembach and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2016-04-01 with Social Science categories.

In the wake of the Iraq war, the term Old Europe was appropriated by politicians, civil society and social movement actors alike to rally in defence of supposedly social and civilized values against the perceived predatory forces of American finance. Against Old Europe sheds light on the social movement politics encapsulated in the protest slogan 'Fight Old Europe'. Within what is broadly labelled the global justice movement, it explores a particular, radical perspective that warns against the identification with European values by movements resisting neoliberalism. Exploring the work of key theorists critical of globalization, including Habermas, Negri, Holloway, Postone and de Benoist, the book examines critical theory approaches to alter-globalization, illustrated with concrete examples of movements within contemporary Europe. In so doing, it invites readers to explore the charges of nationalism, anti-Americanism and antisemitism brought against parts of the alter-globalization movement. Providing a new perspective on critiques of globalization, Against Old Europe will appeal to sociologists and social and political theorists studying social movements, anti-globalization activism and European politics and identity.
