Studienarbeit aus dem Jahr 2010 im Fachbereich Geschichte Europas - Zeitalter Weltkriege, Note: 1,7, Ernst-Moritz-Arndt-Universität Greifswald (Historisches Institut), Veranstaltung: Nordeuropa in der Zwischenkriegszeit, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Mit der russischen Revolution vom März 1917 bekam Finnland seinen autonomen Sonderstatus wieder. Innerhalb des Landes spalteten sich die Meinungen. Die Stimmen teilten sich auf in die Lager derer, die trotzdem im Verbund mit Russland verbleiben wollten, nachdem dies in dieser Konstellation im vorhergehenden Jahrhundert funktionierte und jenen, die sich vom Zarenreich abtrennen wollten. Es kam in Finnland zu einem Bürgerkrieg zwischen den Weißen und den Roten, jeweils unterstützt von den Deutschen und den Russen. Genau wie im späteren Fortsetzungskrieg, mit dem das Land die Verluste nach dem Winterkrieg revidieren wollte, stand der Staat in Verbindung zu Deutschland. General Mannerheim, die Leitfigur in der Bevölkerung, überbrückte durch seine Abneigung gegenüber den Kommunisten sein Unverständnis für die gegenwärtige Deutschlandfreundlichkeit. Bis hin zu den Zeiten des Zweiten Weltkrieges versuchte sich Finnland außenpolitisch zu orientieren und zu etablieren. Die vorliegende Arbeit soll sich in ihren Kapiteln dabei dem Fragekomplex widmen, wie Finnland seine Außenpolitik gestaltete, sie umsetzte und schließlich später als isolierter Staat zu Zeiten des Zweiten Weltkrieges trotz massiven Bedrohungen seine Unabhängigkeit beibehalten konnte. Der Text soll aufzeigen, dass Finnland vor allem im Umgang mit seinen Nachbarstaaten lediglich als kleine politische Einheit wahrgenommen, behandelt und somit letztendlich auch unterschätzt wurde. Es wird dargestellt, wie der Staat in seiner jungen Geschichte auch auf der Weltbühne versuchte Fuß zu fassen. Ebenso wird Aufschluss gegeben, wie es zur Abgrenzung kam und schließlich zum erzwungenen Krieg gegen die Sowjetunion und die daraus resultierende Kooperation mit dem Deutschen Reich unter Hitler. Auf eine detailreiche Darstellung der Kämpfe wird dabei weitestgehend verzichtet.
