This work aimed at designing, studying and producing the first prototypes of KIDs tailored for fusion plasma polarimetric diagnostics. Diamond was considered for the first time as substrate material for low-temperature superconducting detectors given its unmatched optical, radiation hardness and thermal qualities, properties necessary for working environments potentially saturated with radiation. This work represents a first step toward the optimization and final application of this technology.

Dynamic Model Based Analysis Of Oxygen Reduction Reaction In Gas Diffusion Electrodes written by Röhe, Maximilian and has been published by KIT Scientific Publishing this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2024-01-09 with categories.

In this work, the first simulation model of oxygen depolarized cathodes (ODC), which are silver catalyst-based gas diffusion electrodes, is presented that considers the phase equilibrium of the gas-liquid interface and structure-related inhomogeneities in electrolyte distribution. By means of the model it has been identified that mass transport of water and ions in the liquid phase is a crucial factor for electrode performance and how it is influenced by the electrode structure.

Multiscale Modeling Of Curing And Crack Propagation In Fiber Reinforced Thermosets written by Schöller, Lukas and has been published by KIT Scientific Publishing this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2024-03-15 with categories.

During the production of fiber-reinforced thermosets, the resin material undergoes a reaction that can lead to damage. A two-stage polymerization reaction is modeled using molecular dynamics and evaluations of the system including a fiber surface are performed. In addition, a phase-field model for crack propagation in heterogeneous systems is derived. This model is able to predict crack growth where established models fail. Finally, the model is used to predict crack formation during curing.

- The present work deals with the development of a macroscopic continuum model to investigate the influence of the flexoelectric effect on microstructural domain switching processes in ferroelectric ceramics. It is of interest whether direct flexoelectricity can initiate a poling process in piezoceramics and if indirect flexoelectricity can improve the actuator performance of an IDE wafer.

- This work focuses on the numerical investigation of fracture formation, crystallization, and crystal dissolution processes in subsurface hydrothermal environments on microscale. Phase-field models are presented and applied to these processes. The formation of mineral veins in limestones and in quartz-rich microstructures are modeled to investigate different factors which influence the evolving crystal structure. Moreover, crystal dissolution processes of different minerals are modeled.

- In this work, silicon nitride/silicon carbide composites are manufactured and characterized for tribologically highly stressed applications. The characterization of the composite materials shows the influence of the silicon carbide content on the resulting microstructure and the mechanical properties. The friction properties of the composite materials were characterized in tribological experiments. The composites show very good friction and wear behavior.

- High brittle-ductile transition temperatures preclude the use of conventionally manufactured tungsten (W) as a structural material. Ultrafine grained (UFG) W materials, however, exhibit the brittle-ductile transition at very low temperatures and consequently exhibit room-temperature ductility. The correlative microstructure analysis revealed a strong correlation between the transition temperature and the mean grain boundary spacing along the crack front.
