The highly successful Grumpy Old Woman returns - and this time she's even grumpier! 'It feels like only yesterday I was the youngest person in the room, I had my whole life in front of me. I had time to burn, I spent my whole day snogging boys and backcombing my hair. I was a young thing, with a lovely body, life was fun, and I hadn't a care in the world. Now - it feels like two minutes later - I'm a little bit old. OK, I'm not in elasticated stockings or on Meals on Wheels whizzing down the stairs on my stairlift, but my life is more than half over. I've been there, done that, got the packamac. I'm so old that I remember dances with drum solos, the arrival of unisex hairdressers and had a crush on Ilya Kuryakin. I am up at the top of the hill, and over the other side again. What all this means, is that I am grumpy. But I've earnt it... I lived through Boney M and leg warmers and the Crossroads Motel. Obviously in a book this size I wouldn't be able to share with you ALL of my grumps. But I've decided to write down some of the secret thoughts that beset a woman of a certain age, some of the wicked things that occur to a woman who takes a lot of things to the dry cleaners, has to have her roots done every four weeks and finds it hard to wear high heels. And guess what: they still fancy people, still have silly little crushes on people at work, still - shock horror - have sex. You will discover that women of a certain age are just as provocative and turned on as women in their twenties. Probably more so. So get over it. Middle-aged women are sexy, funny and infinitely lovable. They are also taking over the world.'

To everything there is a season. A time to be born, a time to die ... and a time to have a bloody good moan. Following the huge success of Grumpy Old Men, Stuart Prebble, writer of the highly acclaimed TV series, gives us a more in-depth look at what it's really like to be a pissed-off man of a certain age. In painstaking detail, he takes us through a year in the constantly irritated life of a Grumpy Old Man, recounting the manifold vexations and absurdities he has to put up with in the perpetual torment that we call modern living. Drinks parties, holidays, hospital visits, his children's misdemeanours, buying presents for the wife, watching television, attempts to visit the gym, trips to the shops, the trials and tribulations of everyday life - each event has something to tip him over the edge. Stuart's diary proves that grumpiness is not just an occasional mood or a temporary feeling, but a way of looking at the world, and will strike a chord with all those who are proud to call themselves Grumpy Old Men.

If Adrian Mole had grown up to be a grumpy old git who had to cope with failed marriage and a life-sucking job, and worse, whose colleagues actually thought he was a miserable old git, he might be a bit like Dave Cross. 'Diary of a Grumpy Old Git' is Dave's laugh-out-loud diary.

The Writer S Diary written by Trevor Cree and has been published by Trevor Cree this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2022-11-05 with Travel categories.

On the 3rd November 2004 Trevor Cree was due to fly from London to Rome for a briefing at the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO). On the following Saturday he was due to fly on to Kabul in Afghanistan for an initial three week mission. However on the 28th October 2004 three UN volunteers in Afghanistan, Angelito Nayan, Annetta Flanigan and Shqipe Habibi, were kidnapped and had been threatened with execution unless certain unacceptable demands were met. Trevor Cree’s contract was abruptly terminated and so it was a question of ‘where to now’ for an unemployed freelance agricultural engineering consultant with limited future prospects? Some six years previously he had started to write a romance and adventure travel novel based on his own personal experiences of the walking tracks, backpackers and backpacker hostels of the Southern Alps of New Zealand. The preliminary draft had lain gathering dust in the UK going absolutely nowhere for years and so he simply decided there and then that fate had dictated that now was the time to return to New Zealand and finish the novel. Or fail in the attempt. The Writer’s Diary is a contemporary account of the trials and tribulations, highs and lows, hopes and fears of someone trying to give birth to a piece of writing that others might enjoy, and that might even be commercially successful. It was certainly a madcap scheme. But then again story telling and storytellers are as old as time itself and he was simply carrying on an ancient tradition. Follow him on his creative and physical journey and see what transpired. Hopefully it will resonate with aspiring writers everywhere.

Her Story. Finally Told. America in 1902 stared, gasped, or cheered: Mary did it her way. She launched herself from obscurity in Butte, Montana at age 19 with an electrifying confessional memoir and began writing a life of thought and adventure we can read only now. Literary artist, charismatic media figure, proto-Surrealist, cool-headed businesswoman, introspective recluse, silent-movie vamp, first filmmaker in history to break the fourth wall, bisexual adventuress who wrote openly of it in the 1910s - this first-ever biography of Mary MacLane brings us her unique life from its beginning to its end. Unfolding her artistic and spiritual evolution and still-compelling writing, the sensitive private person is heard at last in personal letters, freshly-uncovered works, family recollections, eyewitness accounts, and face-to-face interviews. Enriched with 140 rare photos and accounts of the fascinating people she met throughout her life, this deeply-researched, artfully-written biography lifts up a great writer’s powerful voice to tell the story. Mary MacLane: Herself invites the reader to experience a life like no other. Michael R. Brown is an American author/editor who published the first MacLane anthology, Tender Darkness. In 2009 he released the well-reviewed experimental memoir She and I: A Fugue and in 2014 edited the acclaimed Human Days: A Mary MacLane Reader. Her first book is a train hurtling through the dust of a frozen world.” - L’Express “One of the most fascinatingly self-involved personalities of the 20th century.” - The Age “Her diaries ignited a national uproar, ushering in a new era for women’s voices. Her elegant, ambitious embrace of full-disclosure had opened a door to what was possible for women.” - The Atlantic “In a pre-soundbite age she already knew how to draw blood in one direct sentence, and the sun of the wide, bright world has come to shine on her again.” - The Awl “Her hunger for life still jumps over to the reader today” - Der Spiegel “Her voice carries far. Awarded the Grand Prix for Literature by the Académie Française and adapted into a classic film by Robert Bresson, Diary of a Country Priest has long been recognized as a literary masterpiece. In this acclaimed new translation by Bernanos scholar Michael R. Tobin, the full, unabridged work is made available to English-language readers for the first time. Set in rural France, the novel recounts the joys and travails of a young parish priest, tormented by illness and afflicted by awkwardness, as he deals with a colorful cast of local characters and endures deep interior suffering. Accessible to Catholic and non-Catholic readers alike, it is a tour de force of spiritual storytelling, destined to be a classic for generations to come. “This novel, so immense in significance and beauty, is a portrait of a suffering soul, a simple priest who carries within his own body the sins of others, and in his heart an incomplete love for himself. As the events of the story unfold, we come to know this highly sensitive soul, so dedicated, so yearning to help others. Yet even as his worsening health is combined with a dark night of the soul, grace moves in him, and through him, for the salvation of others. This fine new translation offers us afresh a major Christian classic, which prevails as one of the great works of human literature.” — Michael D. O’Brien, Author, Island of the World “Tobin’s graceful translation of Bernanos’ magnificent novel illustrates an uncommon path to holiness." — Ron Hansen, Author, Mariette in Ecstasy "The best Spiritual Book of the 20th Century.” — USA Today "A book of utmost sensitivity, compassion, and deep encompassing art.” — New York Times Book Review

A plucky medium, her fame-chasing ex, and an infuriatingly handsome skeptic reporter make for a complicated love triangle—and that's before the ghosts get involved. From the #1 New York Times bestselling author of One Day in December comes the first novel in a ghost-hunting series full of romance and humor. Ghosts and spirits are business as usual, but love just might be enough to scare Melody Bittersweet. In the leafy, charming town of Chapelwick, the Bittersweet family has been a fixture on High Street for as long as anyone can remember. Their rambling black-and-white building houses all three generations of ghost-sensitive Bittersweet women and their business, Blithe Spirits. On her twenty-seventh birthday, Melody Bittersweet converts the disused back storeroom into her office and opens her own business. Unlike the rest of her family, she’s not taking down messages from ghosts—she’s taking them out. Right away, the freshly minted Girls’ Ghostbusting Agency takes on its first case: a grand old house that won’t sell because a trio of incumbent ghost brothers raise merry hell whenever prospective owners arrive to view it. It soon becomes clear that there’s a whole heap of unfinished business between the Scarborough brothers—including murder—and Melody isn’t the only one trying to unravel the mystery. Leo Dark, her rakish ex and business rival, is also on the case, along with the TV crew that trails him. To make matters worse, the sarcastic and skeptical (and annoyingly good-looking) local reporter Fletcher Gunn has his nose in the story as well. Sniffing out a way to publicly discredit the Bittersweets is his favorite assignment—and has absolutely nothing to do with his inability to resist Melody. With her business on the line, it’s up to Melody to work out the brothers’ issues, but can she protect her own very susceptible heart from Fletcher’s charm? Does she even want to?
