La autora contribuyó a la cultura mexicana con traducciones, el ejercicio de la docencia y la promoción de las artes. Tradujo al alemán la novela Pedro Páramo al alemán estimulando la proyección de Juan Rulfo y de la novela latinoamericana en Europa. Dio a conocer en español la obra de Paul Westheim (1886-1963) uno de los primeros críticos del expresionismo alemán, quién además estudió a profundidad el arte prehispánico. Tradujo también los comentarios de Eduard Seler al Códice Borgia, y escribió sobre literatura y artes plásticas en suplementos y revistas a lo largo de medio siglo. Así, esta obra es la primera muestra ontológica de esos textos, algunos inéditos. Más de medio centenar de artículos y ensayos sobre artes plasticos divididos en seis apartados y un apéndice. Las notas monográficas y biográficas complementan los textos de la estudiosa alemana y ayudan a situarlos en su época y circunstancias, y nos dejan señales para ahondar sobre artistas y personajes.

Al despuntar el Mexico moderno la escultura no ha recibido el mismo impulso que tuvo, en su momento, la pintura. Sin embargo, en los ultimos setenta anos del siglo xx se habia identificado a casi seiscientos cincuenta escultores mexicanos que trabajaban regularmente. La intencion de la muestra "Escultura Mexicana" realizada en el Palacio de Bellas Artes de la Ciudad de Mexico fue dar cuenta del trabajo realizado por los escultores nacionales de 1930 a 2000. Los dos grandes capitulos de la exhibicion ("De la Academia al objeto" y "De la Ruptura a la instalacion") dieron cabida a mas de quinientas obras y doscientos creadores. El catalogo de ese evento integra piezas representativas de artistas populares, anonimos incluso, que hicieron valiosas contribuciones a la disciplina. Se incluyeron tambien obras de importantes artistas que quiza se han significado mas en otras areas de la plastica. Se evidencia en este libro la cantidad de realizadores nacionales como la innegable calidad de sus realizaciones.
