The third of October 2020 marked the 90th anniversary of the Brazilian Revolution of 1930. Although this event is recognized in Brazilian historiography as an important landmark in the construction of contemporary Brazil, debate, discourse and indeed publications commemorating the event have been much less numerous and profound than would be expected. Comparisons have been made with what took place in 1980, the year of the revolutions fiftieth anniversary, where meaningful historical judgements were made across a wide spectrum of society and the political establishment. It is pertinent to ask why there is no longer the appetite for substantive discussion on the Vargas period. Perhaps it is due to the new political climate in Brazil in the last decade, especially with regard to various projects aimed at labour and trade union reform, the main legacies of the revolutionary period which today are considered by many as obstacles to the modernization of the labour market and the country's economic development. Given the economic imperatives and aims of the 1930 Revolution, a re-evaluation of the Vargas Period will assist in better understanding the contemporary economic issues that face Brazil today. The exercise is neither one of nostalgia or exaltation of this past period, but rather to offer a (positive and negative) overview of Vargas legacy and the vast historiography that surrounds it. Scholars, politicians, business and the Brazilian workforce need to learn from past economic choices in order to better understand the challenges that contemporary Brazil faces. Recently proposed reforms have strong overtones to the revolutionary agenda of the 1930s, namely the forging of a New Brazil and the necessity of avoiding political schism. This book examines the political, economic, labour, cultural, military, and gender ramifications that will guide debate.

Esta obra é uma pesquisa que reúne diacronia e sincronia de palavras e expressões de nossa Língua Portuguesa, que, ao longo de sua história foram sofrendo a ação da mudança semântica, fartamente abonadas pelas mais diversas fontes que vão do cânone literário ao cancioneiro popular, às histórias em quadrinhos, à palavra na boca do povo, enfim. Os vocábulos contidos neste volume 5 da pentalogia (Dicionário de Significados Alterados) são aqueles que não se enquadram nos demais volumes, isto é, não são relacionados ao reino animal (Volume 1), nem a plantas (reino vegetal – Volume 2), nem a números (Volume 3) e nem mesmo aos vocábulos femininos, aumentativos ou diminutivos (Volume 4). Em uma pesquisa alentada, que traz sua marca pessoal, Wagner vai encontrando palavras e expressões antigas e recentes do vocabulário de nosso idioma, mostrando o quanto as línguas são vivas e se deixam modificar sob a pressão do uso que seus usuários dela fazem. Portanto, o trabalho de pesquisa realizado por Wagner, verdadeira garimpagem lexical, ainda que seja por razões outras, demonstra, no mínimo, o gosto pelo estudo do léxico da Língua Materna e o amor e o respeito por suas palavras.

Esta é a 2ª edição revista e ampliada do bem-sucedido Dicionário de Onomatopeias e Vocábulos Expressivos, resultado de uma pesquisa prazerosa nas letras da MPB, nas literaturas, poemas e nas histórias em quadrinhos. Esta obra está dividida em três partes: Primeira Parte, Segunda Parte e Adendo. A Primeira Parte reúne os vocábulos gerais que estão registrados nos dicionários convencionais como onomatopeia ou vocábulo expressivo, inclusive os que estão registrados como “prov.” (provavelmente) e “talvez” pelos autores e ainda os vocábulos onomatopaicos registrados como tal por autores de literaturas, livros diversos e letras da MPB. A Segunda Parte reúne os vocábulos que são muito parecidos com a onomatopeia ou com o vocábulo expressivo, mas não estão assinalados como tal nos dicionários convencionais, ou porque são de origem desconhecida ou porque são de origem estrangeira (no caso da onomatopeia, pois o vocábulo expressivo é somente da Língua Portuguesa). O Adendo apresenta vocábulos comuns que não são onomatopeias, entretanto, são usados como tal; e alguns caracteres usados especificamente nos gibis e histórias em quadrinhos.
