Es gibt neue Kapitel zu aktuellen Trends in der Polymerchemie, z.B. Polymerblends, Polymere durch palladiumkatalysierte Kreuzkupplung, enzymatische Polymerisation, Polymere für die Optoelektronik, ferroelektrische Polymere und MALDI-TOF-Massenspektrometrie zur Charakterisierung von Polymeren. Die Ausführungen zur Physik und physikalischen Chemie des Polymerfestkörpers mußten sich wie in der 1. Auf lage im wesentlichen auf den vereinfachten Modellfall beschränken; sie erfuhren einen Ausbau durch Aufnahme eines Abschnittes über die Strukturdynamik und durch eine stärkere Hervorhebung der immer enger werdenden Beziehungen zwischen Polymerphysik und Technologie der Polymerverarbeitung. Der gleiche Gesichtspunkt war auch maßgebend für die Aufnahme eines Abschnitts über Polymerdispersionen im Rahmen des Kapitels über die physikalische Chemie der Polymerlösungen. Eine Er weiterung des Abschnitts über Polyelektrolyte erwies sich als notwendig nicht nur auf Grund des großen Er kenntnisforsehrittes der letzten Jahre, sondern auch, um im Sinne der interdisziplinären Zielstellung des Buches notwendige Anschlußstücke zu anderen, biochemischen nnd biologischen Problemen gewidmeten, Bänden dieser Reihe zu liefern. Die einschlägige Literatur konnte im n, llgemeinen bis zum Jahre 1973 berücksichtigt werden, wobei eine bewußte Beschränkung auf Übersichtsarbeiten und ausgewählte neue Experimentalergebnisse unter an gemessener Betonung von Arbeiten des Instituts für Polymerenchemie der Akademie der Wissenschaften der DDR erfolgte. Insgesamt ließ sich aus den dargelegten Gründen eine erhebliche Umfangserweiterung nicht ver meiden; dem Akademie-Verlag Berlin sei an dieser Stelle herzlich gedankt für das dafür aufgebrachte Verständnis und für die trotz dieser Erweiterung sehr zügig vor genommene Bearbeitung und Drucklegung.
