Dabei stellt sie die Frage nach dem Zusammenhang zwischen dem physischen und dem seelischen Sein und deren Vorgängen, oder anders formuliert: die Frage nach der Natur mentaler Zustände. Im Lauf der Geschichte entwickelten sich immer wieder neue Standpunkte und somit auch Streitfälle, wie z.B. zwischen den Vertretern des Dualismus und des Monismus. Doch innerhalb dieser Lager gibt es über Jahrhunderte hinweg immer wieder Diskussionen die auf Grund der Zwietracht und Uneinigkeit bis heute zu weiteren Abspaltungen führen. In diesem dicht verzweigten Bereich der Philosophie, gilt Hilary Putnam als Begründer des Funktionalismus Anfang der 60er Jahre (weswegen ich im Titel auch gezielt auf „seinen“ Funktionalismus bestand), der als einer der klassischen materialistischen Monismen betrachtet werden kann. Der Funktionalismus fand zunächst breiten Zuspruch, wurde dann aber - allerdings Jahre Später - von Putnam selbst, durch externalistische Thesen innerhalb einer sprachphilosophischen Auseinandersetzung in Frage gestellt.

In variabler interner Fokalisierung (aktorial) erzählen Fred und Käthe abwechselnd von ihrer Ehe, die zu scheitern droht. Ziel dieser Hausarbeit ist es zu untersuchen, wie Fred und Käthe jeweils ihre Ehe sehen, wie die Ehe als solche dargestellt wird und woran sie letztlich zerbricht. Vor allem die These, nicht die Ehe als Institution, sondern ihr menschliches Umfeld seien das eigentliche Problem, soll näher betrachtet werden. Die Hausarbeit beinhaltet hauptsächlich eine selbständige Analyse des Romans, stützt sich außerdem auf die Interpretation Werner Bellmanns, die Kommentare zum Roman aus der Böll-Biographie von J.H. Reid, sowie einige andere Quellen die im Literaturverzeichnis vermerkt und in den Fußnoten gewissenhaft angegeben sind.

This book argues that Aristotle offers us a consistent theory of definition, according to which a particular type of definition – one which states the formal cause of a simple item – is fundamental. It begins by considering definitions as indemonstrable first principles in demonstrations, and inquires how such definitions can have the certainty required by that role. Later chapters look to the Metaphysics to understand how the unity of definitions guarantees their certainty, and to the Topics to discover why definitions must be formulated in terms of the genus and differentia(e) of the object defined. This work contributes to our understanding of the connection between the function of definition in demonstration and its character as a statement of essence.
