Russia is an enigma. In the western hemisphere, respectively the countries of the European Union and USA, it produces a lot of suspicion and resentments. Its vast spatial dimensions, in terms of size; its controversial history and its stubborn focus on sovereignty, when it comes to foreign policy and the international community, are the most prominent sources for difficulties of understanding. In addition, the Russian people liketo sustain a hint of mystery themselves, in claiming that no other nationality can understand them. Apart from stereotypes and prejudices about typical Russian people and characteristics, there are a handful of assumptions one encounters that cling to public opinion about Russia’s political landscape. This work will treat the Russian political system as a contemporary phenomenon. Let us assume all of those assumptions are held true; why does the Russian population still accept those deficits? The fact that the circumstances can be that unpromising, and not many people try tochange something, leaves many spectators speechless. Where does the popular support of society for President Putin come from? Which is the source of stability? Why were the civil opposition movements in 2012/2013 mostly ignored by the majority? What are the reasons for the lack of proneness to protest? Do Russians perceive the political system differently; do they maybe put another focus? Or do they simply fear oppression? The central question, which will be answered, consequently reads "Why does the Russian population supports Putin’s political system and regime?"

In den Blick gerät, was Medien verbreiten. Andere Kriege existieren in der Realität, aber nicht im Bewusstsein von Zeitgenossen weltweit. Fiktionale Verarbeitungen von Kriegen können, anders und intensiver als die Nachricht, die Gewalt reflektieren, sie einordnen, ihr Sinn geben oder sie verwerfen. Sie sind Mittel oder Teil der kriegerischen Strategie und der Propaganda, können aber ebenso gut Gegenentwürfe anbieten zu den Gräueltaten, die sie repräsentieren. Weder Fiktionalität oder Information, noch die Art der medialen Umsetzung stellen, an sich betrachtet, eine Vorentscheidung dar, wie kritisch oder wie affirmativ Kriegshandlungen geschildert oder gedeutet werden. Der vorliegende Band zeigt diese grundsätzliche Ambivalenz in den großen, epochalen Umbrüchen der Mediendispositive und den inter- und transmedialen Wandlungen insgesamt. Er reflektiert sie anhand der Geschichte der Einzelmedien wie Fotografie und Malerei, Hörspiel, Tageszeitung, Essay, Internetforum oder Fernsehnachricht, an der Arbeit von PR-Agenturen oder in der fiktionalen Verarbeitung etwa im Comic. Seit der Antike haben sich Philosophen sehr aufmerksam und eindringlich mit 'memoria' und 'reminiscentia', mit Gedächtnis und Erinnerung beschäftigt. Erst in der Neuzeit und insbesondere in der Moderne ist das Thema "Erinnerung" zu einem Problemtitel geraten, und zwar wegen der Bilder, in denen unser Erinnern sich veranschaulicht. War es doch Immanuel Kant, der die fatale Behauptung aufgestellt hat: "wenn man den Begriff nicht von Bildern ablösen kann, wird man niemals rein und fehlerfrei denken können". Seitdem fällt es den Philosophen schwer, in und mit Bildern zu denken, und manche, zum Beispiel Edmund Husserl, wollten darum die Bilder aus der Erinnerung vertreiben. Das aber hat bedenkliche Folgen für unser Verständnis von Bewußtsein, Subjektivität und Personalität. Die Rede von der Erinnerungsvergessenheit der Philosophie ist jedenfalls nicht unbegründet - deshalb habe ich dieses Buch geschrieben. Und ich habe mich bemüht, es so zu schreiben, daß es auch für denjenigen noch lesbar bleibt, der im "Fach Philosophie" nicht zuhause ist; denn wer ein bewußtes Leben führen will, muß das im flüchtigen Strom seiner Erinnerungsbilder tun.
