The book demonstrates to readers interested in social life in an understandable way how AI works and how it will dramatically change all areas of life. From the history of AI to its techniques and its diverse fields of application to its ethical-philosophical implications, all relevant aspects are presented in detail. The author does not remain descriptive, but also takes a critical stance on AI development in clear words. For the reader, the explanations are designed as a professional support corset, in order to be able to act as a knowledgeable counterpart to the AI experts. The last two chapters take the reader into the future of life with super AI. With daring scenarios, the author alerts the reader in an enjoyable way to the breathtaking and socially highly explosive perspectives associated with AI and the ethical and philosophical questions that arise from it. This book is a translation of the original German 1st edition Machtwechsel der Intelligenzen by Günter Cisek, published by Springer Fachmedien Wiesbaden GmbH, part of Springer Nature in 2021. The translation was done with the help of artificial intelligence (machine translation by the service DeepL.com). A subsequent human revision was done primarily in terms of content, so that the book will read stylistically differently from a conventional translation. Springer Nature works continuously to further the development of tools for the production of books and on the related technologies to support the authors.

“Power Without the Price.” Every Atari fan remembers that slogan from the 1980s as the rallying cry for 16-bit computing in the form of the Atari ST. This groundbreaking computer brought previously unimagined power to the home user for the first time—and transformed an industry or two along the way. Author Jamie Lendino offers a fresh, vital look at the history of the Atari ST, guiding you from its inauspicious genesis at the center of a company known for its gaming consoles to its category-defining triumphs in music, desktop publishing, and video gaming. And he doesn’t stop there: He then leaps to the present to pull back the veil on the thriving software and mod communities that aren’t just keeping it alive today, but taking it to places its creators never could have imagined. Whether you’re a longtime devotee who wants to relive the magic of the machine that unleashed the wonders of Dungeon Master, Time Bandit, and Starglider, an intrepid DIYer on the hunt for new ideas and resources to take your homebrew system to the next level, or a newcomer hungry to learn the ins and outs of one of the most important computers ever created, this book will get you there just as the ST did its long-ago digital pioneers: Faster Than Light.

The Revolution That Bit Its Own Tail written by Jan W. Drukker and has been published by Amsterdam University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2006 with Economic history categories.

The 1960s witnessed a revolutionary change in economic history, to such an extent that in less than ten years time, the discipline was hardly recognizable thereafter. The essentially literary-descriptive method that had characterized economic history since its very beginnings in the second half of the 19th century, gave way to rigorous quantitative testing of mathematically formulated hypotheses, and as a result a host of formerly generally accepted ideas suddenly and quite unexpectedly lost their credibility in academic circles. Although the revisions that were the result of this so called cliometric revolution had a major impact on our ideas on economic development, this methodological revolution remained almost unnoticed outside the realms of academic economic history, the reason for this being the nature of the revolution itself. Suddenly, economic historical articles in professional journals became more or less unintelligible for the interested layman, as they were cast in a language that was directly derived from highly specialized fields of study, such as neoclassical economic theory and econometrics. The revolution that bit its own tail explains in terms understandable for non-specialist readers what was essential in the cliometric revolution and in what ways it changed our ideas on economic development. The book addresses itself in the first place to students in history and economics, but is also an indispensable guide for everyone who is engaged in what is one of today's most pressing problems: The increasing inequality in wealth between rich and poor countries, or, stated in more formal terms: the explanation of economic growth, stagnation and decline.

Share Or Die written by Malcolm Harris and has been published by New Society Publisher this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2012-06-19 with Business & Economics categories.

Essays from Generation Y, or Millennials, around the globe on what it’s like for them to try to make it in the real world after graduation. America stands at a precipice; limitless consumption, reckless economics, and disregard for the environment have put the country on a collision course with disaster. It’s up to a younger generation to rebuild according to new forms of organization, and Share or Die is a collection of messages from the front lines. From urban Detroit to central Amsterdam, and from worker co-operatives to nomadic communities, an astonishing variety of recent graduates and twenty-something experimenters are finding (and sharing) their own answers to negotiating the new economic order. Their visions of a shared future include: · Collaborative consumption networks instead of private ownership · Replacing the corporate ladder with a “lattice lifestyle” · Do-it-yourself higher education As a call-to-action, “share or die” doesn’t only refer to resource depletion, disappearing jobs, or stagnating wages. It refers to social death too, and to finding the commonsense ideas and practices needed to not only merely survive, but also to build a place where it’s worth living. A series of forays into uncharted territory, this graphically rich collection of essays, narratives, and how-tos is an intimate guide to the new economic order and a must-read for anyone attempting to understand what it means to live as part of Generation Y. “If you know someone who dreams of something bigger than being part of the rat race, please give them this book.” —Raj Patel, author of The Value of Nothing
