Aufgrund der steigenden Bedeutung Brasiliens in der Welt und der zunehmenden medialen Aufmerksamkeit- nicht zuletzt durch sportliche Großereignisse wie die Fußball-WM 2014 oder Olympia 2016 in Rio - ist die Frage nach der Nachhaltigkeit des brasilianischen Wirtschaftswachstums aktueller denn je. Diese Studie widmet sich der Fragestellung nach den Ursachen des brasilianischen Wirtschaftsaufschwungs seit dem Jahr 2000. Ziel der Arbeit ist es zu analysieren, ob die Ursachen für das Wirtschaftswachstum eher strukturell - beispielsweise durch politische Strukturreformen - oder konjunkturell - also durch Veränderungen der Marktlage - begründet sind. Durch die Beantwortung der Forschungsfrage lassen sich letztlich Rückschlüsse auf die Nachhaltigkeit des brasilianischen Wirtschaftswachstums ziehen. Die Arbeit leistet somit auch einen Beitrag in der Diskussion um das wirtschaftliche Entwicklungspotential von Schwellenländern. Eine abschließende Beurteilung über die Ursachen des Wirtschaftswachstums findet anhand von relevanten Theorien der Wirtschaftswissenschaft statt. Die Studie beschränkt sich jedoch nicht ausschließlich auf eine bloße Analyse der Wirtschaftsentwicklung der vergangenen Jahre. Zur Bewertung der Nachhaltigkeit des Wirtschaftsaufschwungs setzt sie sich auch mit den enormen sozialen Ungleichheiten und weiteren gesellschaftlich-politischen Problemen auseinander, so dass sich am Schluss ein differenziertes Gesamtbild der brasilianischen Wirtschaft ergibt, mit dem der Blick auf gegenwärtige Entwicklungen leichter fällt. Die Studie bietet sich somit auch als Basisliteratur an, auf deren Grundlage viele weitere interessante Fragestellungen abgeleitet werden können.
