Die Ergebnisse beruhen auf Beobachtungen und Erkundigungen, welche an Ort und Stelle gesammelt wurden, indem ich, von Ort zu Ort wandemd, alles, was mir fur den verfolgten Zweck ron Wichtigkeit schien, aufzeichnete. Zu dieser Arbeit bezw. Reise wurde ich durch Herrn Professor Dr. Graeber in Strassburg aufgemuntert, welcher glaubte, dass es von wissen schaftlichem Interesse sei, wenn die sprachlichen Verhaltnisse auf dem Boden, wo deutsche und franzosische Rede sich beruhren, durch unmittelbare Anschauung und durch rar urteilsfreie Beobachtung ermittelt wurden. Moge dieser kleine Beitrag zur Kunde Lothringen's eine weitere Anregung zur Beschaftigung mit diesem Lande werden, welches, obgleich es fur den Forscher in jeder Beziehung nicht weniger inter essanten - Stofl' als das Elsass bietet, doch weit weniger bekannt ist als das letztere.
