Zionistenkongresses, der am selben Ort vor genau 100 Jahren abgehalten worden war. Nur gelegentlich und ganz am Rande erwähnten die Medien, die über das Ereignis berichteten, in diesem Zusammenhang auch die berühmten Protokolle der Weisen von Zion. Tatsächlich weisen nach wie vor viele gewichtige Indizien darauf hin, daß diese Protokolle während des 1. Zionistenkongresses entstanden sein könnten. Denn bereits 1901 erschien in Rußland die erste gedruckte Ausgabe - als Übersetzung aus dem französischen Urtext. Da die Anfertigung einer Übersetzung und deren Drucklegung naturgemäß eine gewisse Zeit benötigen, rückt allein damit die Datierung des französischsprachigen Originals bereits ein bis zwei Jahre näher an das ominöse Jahr 1897 heran. Zwar ließ sich der direkte, zwingende Beweis dafür, daß das brisante Dokument auf den 1. Zionistenkongreß in Basel 1897 zurückgeht, nie erbringen. Doch sind umgekehrt auch ausnahmslos alle Versuche kläglich gescheitert, die Protokolle glaubhaft als eine Fälschung des russischen Geheimdienstes oder irgendwelcher anonymer Antisemiten zu erweisen. Indessen spielt die immer noch kontrovers beantwortete Frage nach der zionistischen Herkunft der Protokolle angesichts des Verlaufs, den die Weltgeschichte in den letzten 100 Jahren genommen hat, eigentlich gar keine Rolle mehr. Ein ganz nüchterner Vergleich der in den Protokollen vor rund 100 Jahren dokumentierten politischen Zukunftsabsichten mit dem politischen Zustand der Welt heute wirkt wie ein Schock: die Übereinstimmung des damals Geplanten mit dem heute Erreichten ist nahezu perfekt!
