Ein besonderes Augenmerk wird dabei auf die Bedeutung von sozialen Interaktionen und deren Bedingungen gelegt. Der erste Teil dieser Arbeit wird sich mit der Identitätstheorie von George Herbert Mead aus seinem Werk "Mind, Self and Society" beschäftigen. Am Anfang soll erläutert werden, wie die Kommunikation zwischen Menschen durch Symbole ermöglicht wird und welchen Stellenwert die Interaktionen von Individuen für die Identitätsentwicklung hat. Im nächsten Schritt werden zwei soziale Phasen unterschieden, die ein Individuum nach Mead durchlaufen muss, um sich in Interaktionen orientieren zu können. Es wird zudem verdeutlicht, welche Aufgaben Individuen in Interaktionssituationen bewältigen müssen, um in diesen Situationen erfolgreich zu handeln und somit eine Identität zu entwickeln. Anschließend wird dargestellt, wie die Einzigartigkeit der Identität aus dessen aktiver Rolle resultiert. Der zweite Teil dieser Arbeit wird die Entwicklung der Identität nach Lothar Krappmann aus seinem Werk "Soziologische Dimensionen der Identität: strukturelle Bedingungen für die Teilnahme an Interaktionsprozessen" (1969) behandeln. Anfangs soll ausgeführt werden, welches Verhalten von Individuen erforderlich ist, um ihre Identität dauerhaft in Interaktionen darstellen und folglich entwickeln zu können. Daraufhin wird die Zusammensetzung der Identität konkretisiert und es werden die Bedingungen aufgezeigt, die erfüllt werden müssen, um eine stabile Identität dauerhaft aufrechtzuerhalten. Zudem werden aktive und passive Fähigkeiten dargestellt, welche notwendigerweise der Unterstützung der Identitätsentwicklung dienen.

Es liegt oft eine zu große Kluft zwischen ihren Lebenswelten, aber auch die Denkweisen unterscheiden sich. Wie schwierig ist es doch, erwachsen zu werden. Welche Frage den Jugendlichen zentral beschäftigt wird allzu oft vergessen. Dabei werden in der Jugend so viele Weichen für die Zukunft gestellt. Was es ist, dass diese Differenzen zu Stande kommen lässt will ich hier genauer beleuchten - der Jugendliche ist auf der Suche nach sich selbst. Wie geht diese Identitätsfindung von Statten und wie können Eltern ihre Kinder besser verstehen und ihnen in dieser Zeit besser zur Seite stehen, darum soll es in meiner Arbeit gehen. Zunächst einmal befasse ich mit dem Begriff der Adoleszenz um verständlich zu machen in welcher Situation sich ein Jugendlicher während dieser Phase befindet. Dann wird der Begriff der Identität genauer beschrieben um bewusst zu machen, was es für den Jugendlichen bedeutet, sich auf die Suche nach eben dieser zu machen. Hierbei begegnen wir im weiteren Verlauf meiner Arbeit Theorien von Erikson und Marcia. Desweiteren werden die vier Ebenen der Identitätsfindung geklärt und Faktoren beleuchtet, die Einfluss nehmen auf die Entwicklung der Identität. Insbesondere wird hier eingegangen auf die Familie und die Peer Group. Es werden Risikofaktoren zusammengefasst und Jugendagressivität wird untersucht. Abschließend wird festgestellt, was eine positive Auswirkung auf die Identitätsentwicklung Jugendlicher haben kann und wie Eltern positiv zu dieser beitragen können.

How do national stereotypes emerge? To which extent are they determined by historical or ideological circumstances, or else by cultural, literary or discursive conventions? This first inclusive critical compendium on national characterizations and national (cultural or ethnic) stereotypes contains 120 articles by 73 contributors. This book addresses the highly differentiated spatial, social, cultural and demographic structure(s) of Germany, with a particular focus on the reciprocal relations between different levels of spatial development. The historical development of Germany serves as a background in order to provide context for the development of spatially relevant ideas and ideals (whether in relation to politics, landscape, or culture). In this regard, questions of divergence and convergence become highly salient. The book makes the complexity of spatial and social developments in Germany comprehensible. The neopragmatic approach adopted here allows bringing together different theoretical strands while providing a basis for independent regional geographic research at the same time. Beginning with an overview of the physical structures of Germany which provides the material point of departure for the societal development of Germany, key aspects of the German history are discussed. Particular attention is paid to the reciprocal influence between material substrate and notions of landscape. Here, specific ‘German’ trajectories of aesthetic and normative conceptions of landscape become clear. A common theme throughout the book are questions of divergence and of efforts towards convergence, which become evident when considering past and present economic, political, and demographic developments. Efforts to tackle current challenges, such as adapting to climate change and mitigating it, or securing raw materials, also become apparent. The complexity of spatial processes in Germany is illustrated in case study regions dealing with the challenges of structural change in traditional industrial regions (such as the Ruhr area), or e.g. efforts of Berlin to position and find itself as the capital of a unified Germany. Overall, the book shows how theory-driven regional geographic research can make spatiotemporal complexities tangible and comprehensible.

First Published in 1988, this volume works towards a new understanding and exploration of the rise and development of modern society, taking its lead from two classical theorists, Emile Durkheim and Max Weber. The key concept of this approach is the 'interpenetration' of different spheres of action. Richard Münch begins with an exploration of the points of convergence and divergence in the works of Durkheim and Weber. He then builds, from Durkheim, a new theory of social order as a complex set of ordering, dynamizing, identity-producing and goal-setting factors. Münch also constructs a new theory of personality development, based on Durkheim's view of the duality of human nature. He concludes by assessing weber's contribution to our understanding of how modern social order emerged, showing that the unique features of modern society emerged from the 'interpenetration' of cultural, political, communal and economic spheres in action.

Music is a tremendously powerful channel through which people develop their personal and social identities. Music is used to communicate emotions, thoughts, political statements, social relationships, and physical expressions. But, just as language can mediate the construction and negotiation of developing identities, so music can also be a means of communication through which aspects of people's identities are constructed. Music can have a profound influence on our developing sense of identity, our values, and our beliefs, be it from rock music, classical music, or jazz. Musical identities (MacDonald, Hargreaves and Miell, 2002) was unique in being in being one of the first books to explore this fascinating topic. This new book documents the remarkable expansion and growth in the study of musical identities since the publication of the earlier work. The editors identify three main features of current psychological approaches to musical identities, which concern their definition, development, and the identification of individual differences, as well as four main real-life contexts in which musical identities have been investigated, namely in music and musical institutions; specific geographical communities; education; and in health and well-being. This conceptual framework provides the rationale for the structure of the Handbook. The book is divided into seven main sections. The first, 'Sociological, discursive and narrative approaches', includes several general theoretical accounts of musical identities from this perspective, as well as some more specific investigations. The second and third main sections deal in depth with two of the three psychological topics described above, namely the development of and individual differences in musical identities. The fourth, fifth and sixth main sections pursue three of the real-life contexts identified above, namely 'Musical institutions and practitioners', 'Education', and 'Health and well-being'. The seventh and final main section of the Handbook - 'Case studies' - includes chapters which look at particular musical identities in specific times, places, or contexts.
