Jahrhunderts, Sigmund Freud damit ein Architekt unserer Zeit" - so hebt Prof. Dr. Michael Ermann, Leiter der Abteilung für Psychotherapie und Psychosomatik an der Klinik für Psychiatrie und Psychotherapie an der LMU München, die Bedeutung der Psychoanalyse hervor. (Freud Symposium an der LMU " Freud Heute", 05.05.2006, München) Doch Freuds Ansichten und Thesen stoßen nicht bei allen Experten auf absolute Zustimmung. Schon unmittelbar nach der Veröffentlichung von "Die Traumdeutung" im Jahr 1900, in der Freud die grundlegenden Begriffe der frühen Psychoanalyse einführte, gab es erste Kritiker, die die wissenschaftliche Fundierung in Frage stellten. So ging Hans J. Eysenck, ein Persönlichkeitsforscher und Freuds größter Kritiker, davon aus, " dass die Hypothesen Freuds ebenso wenig auf der Couch verifiziert werden können, wie man ein Urteil über die rivalisierenden Hypothesen von Einstein und Newton fällen kann, indem man sie unter den Apfelbaum schlafen legt". London: Penguin) Kritiker und Befürworter einer wissenschaftlichen Theorie gibt es immer, das wusste schon Sigmund Freud, der einst sagte: "Gegen Angriffe kann man sich wehren, gegen Lob ist man machtlos ". Fakt ist, die moderne Psychologie hat wesentliche Aspekte der psychoanalytischen Theorie revidiert oder erweitert, was zu den Fragen führt: Warum Freud studieren? Warum beginnen wir heute, am Anfang des 21 Jahrhunderts, bei der Auseinandersetzung mit Persönlichkeitstheorien mit der Arbeit eines Forschers, der seine Theorie Ende des 19.Jahrhunderts entwickelt hat, anstatt mit aktuellen und wissenschaftlich fundierten Theorien zu beginnen?
