Jahrhundert mit Fokus auf den Hexenprozess „Annaberger Krankheit“ und die Rolle, die die Kirche innerhalb des Prozesses spielte. Bei der sogenannten „Annaberger Krankheit“ handelt es sich um einen der spektakulärsten Hexenprozesse im von Hexenverfolgungen ansonsten nur wenig betroffenen Kursachsen. Die Geschehnisse im erzgebirgischen Annaberg erreichten ihren Höhepunkt zwischen 1713 und 1714 und setzten sich mit Nachwehen noch bis 1720 fort, und obgleich es im Falle der Annaberger Hexenprozesse zu keinen Verurteilungen wegen Hexerei (und damit auch nicht zu Hinrichtungen oder anderen drakonischen Bestrafungen) kommen sollte, so ist der Fall als einer der umfangreichsten (und als der womöglich letzte) des Kurfürstentums Sachsen von besonderem religionswissenschaftlichem Interesse. In Hinblick auf das sich im Prozessverlauf offenbarende Zusammenspiel kirchlicher und weltlicher Institutionen und konkurrierender akademischer Disziplinen stellen sich vor allem folgende Fragen: Welche Rolle spielt religiöses (christliches) Gedankengut bzw. spielen die Vertreter religiöser Institutionen bei der Verbreitung der Deutung der Geschehnisse als Hexerei? Welche Position(en) nimmt die Kirche als Antwort auf diese Hexerei-Vorwürfe in Annaberg ein? Und davon ausgehend: Wie groß ist die Bedeutung bzw. wie stark der Einfluss dieser kirchlichen Position für den Fortgang des Prozesses? Welche anderen sozialen Systeme, neben dem der Religion, beanspruchen die Deutung der Hexenthematik in welchem Maße für sich?
