Studienarbeit aus dem Jahr 2013 im Fachbereich Theologie - Vergleichende Religionswissenschaft, Note: 1,3, Ruhr-Universitat Bochum (CERES), Veranstaltung: Konstruktionen kollektiver Identitat in Indien und Sri Lanka, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: In der vorliegenden Arbeit steht die Wechselwirkung zwischen Europa und Indien im Fokus. Innerhalb der Forschung gibt es eine breite Diskussion uber den Begriff des Hinduismus1 und seine Entstehung. Fur diese Arbeit hat diese Diskussion insofern einen Wert, da sie die Problematik mit der Beschaftigung des Hinduismus wiedergibt und die grosse Unterschiedlichkeit verschiedener Stromungen innerhalb des Hinduismus darlegt. Im zweiten Unterkapitel der Einleitung wird daraufhin dargestellt, inwiefern Religion und Identitat zusammenhangen. Da diese Arbeit innerhalb des Rahmens der Beschaftigung mit der Schaffung von kollektiver Identitat in Indien und Sri Lanka" entstanden ist, soll zunachst skizziert werden, wie Identitat uberhaupt entsteht und ob es sich dabei um ein starres oder ein flexibles Gebilde handelt. Im zweiten Kapitel wird naher auf die Beziehung zwischen Indien und der etablierten Kolonialmacht der Briten eingegangen. Des Weiteren wird die Geschichte der muslimischen Fremdherrschaft" kurz skizziert, um die Veranderungen in der Religion darzulegen und Rolle von Religion und Identitat in dieser Zeit zu betrachten. Der Fokus liegt auf dem Wissenstransfer zwischen Indien und Grossbritannien, sowie der Entwicklung der hinduistischen Religion zu dieser Zeit. Dabei soll auch kurz auf eine weitere hinduistische Erneuerungsbewegungen, den rya Sam j eingegangen werden, um das Blickfeld innerhalb der hinduistischen Bewegungen zu diversifizieren. When Mayan leaders protested the celebration of the Quincentenary of the "discovery" of America and joined with other indigenous groups in the Americas to proclaim an alternate celebration of 500 years of resistance, they rose to national prominence in Guatemala. This was possible in part because of the cultural, political, economic, and religious revitalization that occurred in Mayan communities in the later half of the twentieth century. Another result of the revitalization was Mayan students' enrollment in graduate programs in order to reclaim the intellectual history of the brilliant Mayan past. Victor Montejo was one of those students. This is the first book to be published outside of Guatemala where a Mayan writer other than Rigoberta Menchu discusses the history and problems of the country. It collects essays Montejo has written over the past ten years that address three critical issues facing Mayan peoples today: identity, representation, and Mayan leadership. Montejo is deeply invested in furthering the discussion of the effectiveness of Mayan leadership because he believes that self-evaluation is necessary for the movement to advance. He also criticizes the racist treatment that Mayans experience, and advocates for the construction of a more pluralistic Guatemala that recognizes cultural diversity and abandons assimilation. Many Guatemalans speak of Mayan indigenous organizing as "a finger in the wound." Diane Nelson explores the implications of this painfully graphic metaphor in her far-reaching study of the civil war and its aftermath. Why use a body metaphor? What body is wounded, and how does it react to apparent further torture? If this is the condition of the body politic, how do human bodies relate to it—those literally wounded in thirty-five years of war and those locked in the equivocal embrace of sexual conquest, domestic labor, mestizaje, and social change movements? Supported by three and a half years of fieldwork since 1985, Nelson addresses these questions—along with the jokes, ambivalences, and structures of desire that surround them—in both concrete and theoretical terms. She explores the relations among Mayan cultural rights activists, ladino (nonindigenous) Guatemalans, the state as a site of struggle, and transnational forces including Nobel Peace Prizes, UN Conventions, neo-liberal economics, global TV, and gringo anthropologists. Along with indigenous claims and their effect on current attempts at reconstituting civilian authority after decades of military rule, Nelson investigates the notion of Quincentennial Guatemala, which has given focus to the overarching question of Mayan—and Guatemalan—identity.
