Fachrichtungen der Sozial- und Naturwissenschaften versuchen mit Hilfe verschiedenster Theorien Gründe für die geschlechtsspezifischen Differenzen zu finden. Es wird im Detail dem biologischen und sozialen Geschlecht nachgegangen. Innerhalb dieser Debatte treffen am häufigsten der biologische Erklärungsansatz und der Ansatz der sozialen Konstruktion kontrovers aufeinander. Es wird zunächst aufgezeigt, dass der biologische Erklärungsansatz Geschlechterdifferenzen auf biologische Veranlagung und Vererbung zurückführt. Die Erörterung der sozialen Konstruktion von Geschlecht stellt darauf folgend den biologischen Determinismus in Frage, da der Ansatz die Geschlechter und deren Differenzen als sozial konstruiert begreift.1 Dafür soll zunächst die Entkoppelung von Geschlecht hinsichtlich Natur und Kultur mit Hilfe des Sex-Gender-Modells betrachtet werden, um im Folgenden die theoretischen Ansätze von Harold Garfinkel und Erving Goffman darzulegen. Ein Blick in die Ergebnisse der Kulturvergleichenden Forschung wird zeigen, welch großen Einfluss die Kultur auf die menschliche Entwicklung hat. Die entstehenden Lücken des binären Gesellschaftssystems, die sich beispielsweise bei Transsexualität finden lassen, bieten einen Darstellungsraum, indem ersichtlich wird, dass die vermutete Eindeutigkeit unserer dichotomen Geschlechterwelt eine Scheinwelt ist und dass sie für diejenigen große Probleme mit sich bringt, die nicht in unser Gesellschaftssystem der Zweigeschlechtlichkeit passen. Es wird ersichtlich, welch großen Aufwand die Akteure beim so genannten Doing Gender betreiben, um der allgegenwärtigen Omnirelavanz des Geschlechts im gesellschaftlichen Zusammenleben gerecht zu werden.

This publication aims at researching the use of the gender balanced scorecard as (long-term) change management instrument to implement gender mainstreaming in organisational culture. Case studies and in-depth interviews are the basis for the empirical research done in six organisations in Germany and the Netherlands. This research shows that a gender balanced scorecard could be a useful instrument for management, but before it can be introduced general awareness towards gender initiatives will have to be increased in organisations.
