Excerpt from Die Landwirtschaftlichen Versuchs-Stationen, 1906, Vol. 64: Organ für Naturwissenschaftliche Forschungen auf dem Gebiete der Landwirtschaft In den 18 Jahren seines Bestehens hat der Verband, wie aus den Berichten über seine Verhandlungen hervorgeht, sich ganz vorzugsweise mit der Ausarbeitung und Vervollkommnung derjenigen Untersuchungsmethoden befasst, welche sich auf die Kontrolle der Düngemittel, Futtermittel und Saatwareu beziehen. Immer und immer wieder hat er sich mit den Bestimmungen des Stickstoff Phosphorsäure und Kaligehaltes, mit der Analyse der Futtermittel und mit der Untersuchung der Saatwaren be schäftigt und wird, wie ein Blick auf die heutige Tagesordnung zeigt, noch eine geraume Zeit brauchen, bevor die Zahl der auf diesen Gebieten zu bearbeitenden Fragen eine wesentliche Ab nahme erfahren wird. Der andere Teil unseres Programms, die auf die Pflanzen und Tierproduktion gerichtete eigentliche Ver suchstätigkeit, ist von einem einzigen schüchtemen Versuche, eine Kommission für das Versuchswesen zu bilden, abgesehen bis jetzt vom Verbands überhaupt nicht in Angriff genommen worden, sondern dem einzelnen überlassen geblieben. Und doch gibt es hier eine grosse Zahl sehr wichtiger Fragen, deren sichere und zuverlässige Beantwortung nur durch Zusammenschluss mehrerer Versuchsanstalten zu erreichen ist. Das Hindernis, welches einer solchen gemeinsamen Arbeit entgegenstand, war der leidige Mangel an Mitteln. Gemeinsame Arbeiten, deren Ziel es ist, Einzelbeobachtungen von besonderer Bedeutung auf ihre Tragweite fiir die land wirtsch aftliche Praxis zu prüfen, erfordern ihrer so notwendigen Ausdehnung wagen naturgemäss grössere Mittel, denen die Kasse des Verbandes nicht ge wachsen ist.
