In his analyses based on the edition of the Millstätter Genesis (Millstatt Genesis) Frank Schäfer shows that the tradition of the early Middle High German biblical work has to be complemented by one important step: The edition of the Altdeutsche Genesis (Old German Genesis) cannot be credited to the writer of the Millstätter Handschrift (Millstatt Manuscript) but to a lost blueprint. Furthermore, the Millstatt Manuscript may not be written in the Benedictine abbey in Carinthia as previously assumed, yet never proven but in Rein Abbey, a Cistercian monastery in Styria.

The Millstätter Genesis (Millstatt Genesis) is one of the most comprehensive literary monument of the early Middle High German Millstätter Handschrift (Millstatt Manuscript), one of the oldest great illustrated books in German. Frank Schäfer's edition presents this biblical work in a reader friendly manner (modern interpunction, marking of length, header lines for orientation). A well-structured apparatus facilitates the comparison of both parallel manuscripts and other editions. A detailed introduction resumes the research and edition history and shows how much modification was needed for the manuscript stemma. This edition not only includes 87 pen drawings of the Millstatt Genesis but also images of the parallel manuscripts. For the first time, it presents the 32 pictures of the Millstätter Physiologus in a coloured version .

The Millst Tter Exodus written by D. H. Green and has been published by Cambridge University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1966 with Foreign Language Study categories.

The Millstatter Exodus, a German epic of the twelfth century, is a poetic version of the opening chapters of the book of Exodus, treating the events of the early life of Moses and culminating in the crossing of the Red Sea and the destruction of the Hebrews' pagan enemies. In form it represents the second attempt at a biblical epic on the large scale after the revival of German vernacular literature in the late eleventh century. Professor Green analyses the Millstatter Exodus in form and in context. He compares it with its predecessor, the Wiener Genesis, and with its biblical source, throwing light on the early development of the German epic in the twelfth century and on the poetic intentions of the author of the Exodus. Professor Green believes that the Millstatter Exodus can best be understood allegorically against the background of the crusading movement, and he shows that it is one of the first literary attempts in Germany to come to terms with the crusades and the problem of Christian warfare.

The scientific debates on border crossings and cultural exchange between Judaism, Christianity, and Islam have much increased over the last decades. Within this context, however, little attention has been given to the biblical Exodus, which not only plays a pivotal role in the Abrahamic religions, but also is a master narrative of a border crossing in itself. Sea and desert are spaces of liminality and transit in more than just a geographical sense. Their passage includes a transition to freedom and initiation into a new divine community, an encounter with God and an entry into the Age of law. The volume gathers twelve articles written by leading specialists in Jewish and Islamic Studies, Theology and Literature, Art and Film history, dedicated to the transitional aspects within the Exodus narrative. Bringing these studies together, the volume takes a double approach, one that is both comparative and intercultural. How do Jewish, Christian and Islamic texts and images read and retell the various border crossings in the Exodus story, and on what levels do they interrelate? By raising these questions the volume aims to contribute to a deeper understanding of contact points between the various traditions.
