Unsere Gesellschaft verändert sich derzeit rasant, Altbekanntes und –bewährtes bricht sowohl im sozialen als auch im beruflichen Bereich auf und macht neuen Formen der Arbeit und des Zusammenlebens Platz. Dies wirkt sich auf das Leben vieler Menschen konkret und spürbar aus. Arbeitsrhythmen verändern sich, Mann-und-Frau-Beziehungen müssen neu geordnet werden und mit ihnen auch die Vorstellungen und die Umsetzung von individuellen Lebensentwürfen, Familie und Partnerschaft. An bestimmten Merkmalen läßt sich die Gestalt der postfamilialen Familie allerdings nicht festmachen, ist es doch geradezu Kennzeichen dieser neuen Gesellungsform, daß sie sich in vielen unterschiedlichen Ausprägungen präsentiert. Bereits heute sind postmoderne Formen familiären Zusammenlebens bei vielen Menschen Teil einer sogenannten Patchwork-Biographie geworden. Tendenziell wird Familie künftig nicht mehr lebenslang angelegt sein, sondern ihren Platz zwischen neuen Freiheiten, aber auch Zwängen, behaupten müssen. Denn die meisten Menschen werden ihr Leben nach postmodernen Einflußfaktoren wie Individualisierung, Mobilität und Flexibilität ausrichten. Traditionelle Familienmuster sind damit in Frage gestellt: „Moderne bedeutet die massenhafte Freisetzung von Individuen aus traditionellen Lebenszusammenhängen“ (Clermont, 1997: 18). In der vorliegenden Arbeit werden zunächst die traditionelle Familie und ihr Wandel dargestellt: Ausgehend von Definitionen werden die ursprünglichen Funktionen der Familie kurz erläutert, anschließend die Art der Veränderung im Laufe der Jahrzehnte und Jahrhunderte beschrieben. In einem weiteren Kapitel sollen sowohl die internen als auch die externen Ursa-chen für die Veränderungen familialer Konstellationen ergründet werden. Ein Überblick zu den Schlagworten Individualisierung, Mobilität und Flexibilität soll zum einen zeigen, wie sich die gesellschaftlichen Umbrüche auf den einzelnen Menschen auswirken, zum anderen, wie sich die postmoderne Arbeitswelt und ihre Anforderungen auf das Individuum auswirken. Auf dieser Grundlage will der vorliegende Text dann zeigen, welche neuen Formen des Zusammenlebens sich aus dem aufgezeigten Gesellschaftswandel bisher gebildet haben. Abschließende Bemerkungen zur Thematik runden die Hausarbeit ab.

The Sunni schools of law are named for jurisprudents of the eighth and ninth centuries, but they did not actually function so early. The main division at that time was rather between adherents of ra'y and ḥadīth. No school had a regular means of forming students. Relying mainly on biographical dictionaries, this study traces the constitutive elements of the classical schools and finds that they first came together in the early tenth century, particularly with the work of Ibn Surayj (d. 306/918), al-Khallāl (d. 311/923), and a series of ḥanafī teachers ending with al-Karkhī (d. 340/952). Mālikism prospered in the West for political reasons, while the ẓāhirī and Jarīrī schools faded out due to their refusal to adopt the common new teaching methods. In this book the author fleshes out these historical developments in a manner that will be extremely useful to the field, while at the same time developing some new and highly original perspectives.

Given the salience of the terms 'Salafism' or 'Jihadi-Salafism, ' not only in specialist analyses but also in the media, the currents of Islamic thought grouped under these terms are poised to become more widely known. Yet much western analysis suffers from a lack of sophistication and discernment on this important doctrinal trend in contemporary Islamic thought, so that 'Salafism' is some what liberally employed to denote, with far too much specificity, a phenomenon that is only opaquely defined to the western reader. The contributors to 'Global Salafism' are careful to map out not only the differences in the Salafist schools, but also to underscore the fluidity of this broad doctrinal tendency. They examine the phenomenon both in its regional manifestations - which demonstrate surprising diversities, ambivalences and contradictions - and in its shared essential doctrines. In so doing they highlight the ambivalences inherent in Salafism itself, and the Salafist believers' claim to be reviving Islamic thought for the modern age - albeit through the paradox of 'out-antiquing the antique' by appealing to a greater, older, purer authenticity. With considerable subtlety the tensions between the local and the global aspirations of exponents and claimants to the 'Salafist method' are explored and the parallels and divergences weighed. This is a unique book that can justifiably claim to be pioneering, as it is the first of its kind to take the phenomenon of Salafism as a whole, and address the task of defining what is, despite its crucial importance, a relatively neglected field.
