Diplomarbeit aus dem Jahr 2003 im Fachbereich Politik - Politische Theorie und Ideengeschichte, Note: 1,7, Universität der Bundeswehr München, Neubiberg (Politik), Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Die Arbeit ist in sechs wesentliche Abschnitte geteilt. Die Einleitung, der Abschnitt 0, soll den Leser zum Thema hinführen, die Vorgehensweise erläutern, die Zielsetzung verdeutlichen und die Schwerpunktliteratur für diese Arbeit aufzeigen. Der Hauptteil ist in die Abschnitte 1 – 4 unterteilt. Der Abschnitt 1 befaßt sich mit der Begriffsklärung und den theoretischen Grundlagen für diese Arbeit. In diesem Teil wird der Versuch unternommen die wichtigsten Begriffe, wie Extremismus, Terrorismus und Gewalt zu definieren. Im weiteren Verlauf soll dort dann der Gewaltbegriff mit seinen verschiedenen Ausprägungen eine zentrale Rolle spielen. In diesem einführenden Abschnitt soll eine Art Raster oder Rahmen geschaffen werden, in dem sich die gesamte Arbeit bewegt. Dabei spielen die Subjekte, Objekte und Mittel der Gewalt ein wesentliche Rolle. Die Perzeption und Legitimation von Gewalt sollen diesen Abschnitt beenden. Im Abschnitt „Theorie der Theorien – und ihre Vorbildschriften“ soll versucht werden anhand verschiedener „Vorbildschriften“ herauszuarbeiten, worauf das theoretische Konzept der RAF eigentlich begründet ist. Unter anderem wird auf „alte“ Theorien, wie von Marx und Lenin eingegangen, es spielen aber auch (für die damalige Zeit) „aktuelle“ theoretische Konzeptionen und Entwicklungen, wie der Maoismus, die Theorien von Marcuse, Che Guevara und Marighella, eine entscheidende Rolle. Interessant ist, daß sich hier die RAF sowohl Theorien bedient, die weitgehend theoretisch geblieben sind, als auch Theorien, die zu jener Zeit praktiziert wurden. Darauf basierend entstanden die Verschiedenen ideologischen Positionen der RAF. Dieser Abschnitt soll mit der Erkenntnis enden, daß die Theorie der RAF eine eklektische Theorie, somit eine „Sammlung“ der besten und treffendsten Argumente und Passagen aus den aufgezeigten Theorien im gesamten „revolutionären Spektrum“ ist. Der Abschnitt „Die Entwicklung der RAF“ befaßt sich mit der geschichtlichen Entwicklung – vom Beginn der Studentenbewegung bis hin zur Selbstauflösung der RAF. Hier liegt der Schwerpunkt der Betrachtungen in den späten sechziger Jahren und den ersten Jahren in den Siebzigern. Der Grund hierfür ist, daß sich die folgenden exemplarischen Positionen in diesem groben Zeitraum entwickelt haben. Im letzten Abschnitt des Hauptteils beschäftige ich mich mit „Exemplarischen Positionen zur Gewalt“. Als Beispiele fungieren hier Ulrike Marie Meinhof und Horst Mahler. [...]

English summary: In the 1960s, West Germany experienced a process of change in civil society. One of the progresses in the context of increasingly global economic and political relations was the growing awareness of external problems and developments. This trend was supported by the student movement of 1968. Not only the Third-World-Movement of the 1970s but also later founded NGO's are rooted in the transnational solidarity of 1968. The demand of the students for worldwide political and social justice started as an ideational and publicly demonstrated solidarity and led to cross-border motion and active involvement. The author describes the constitutive factors of the rise of a Third-World-Solidarity in West Germany. She shows that several influences were significant for the dynamics of this protest field: Historical motives, international events and role models, intercultural exchange and an international avant-garde played an important part, as well as the correlation between students, critical representatives of the protestant church and the new ecumenical movement. Together with similar goals, the participation of Christians in the German student movement was one of the elements they shared with leftist protests in other countries, for example in Latin America. Vor dem Hintergrund internationaler politischer Ereignisse und wirtschaftlicher Entwicklungen weitete sich der Blick uber die eigenen Grenzen hinaus, was der Internationalismus der 68er-Bewegung noch verstarkte. Die Forderung der Studenten nach globaler politischer und sozialer Solidaritat fand ihren Ausdruck zunachst in ideeller, offentlichkeitswirksam inszenierter Verbundenheit und mundete in einem grenzuberschreitenden Aufbruch. Die Autorin untersucht nicht nur die Entstehung dieser studentischen Dritte-Welt-Solidaritat, die konstitutiv fur die Dritte-Welt-Bewegung der 70er-Jahre und spaterer NGOs war. Sie zeigt auch, dass fur die Dynamik des Protestfeldes die Wechselwirkung zwischen Studenten, gesellschaftskritischen Vertretern der protestantischen Kirche und der neuen okumenischen Bewegung von Bedeutung war - neben vergangenheitsbezogenen Motiven, internationalen Kultbildern, einer internationalistischen Avantgarde und transnationalen Begegnungen.

Their dreams of leading a revolution were ended when one after another of them died in shoot-outs with the police, or was blown up with his own bomb, or was arrested, tried, and condemned to long terms of imprisonment. All four leaders of the Red Army Faction (dubbed 'the Baader-Meinhof gang' by journalists) committed suicide in prison.

In the modern era, warfare came to play a crucial role in the formation of states, whereas the new wars emerging at the beginning of the 21st century have mostly gone together with the failure or collapse of states. The author draws out the key shifts involved in this process: from symmetrical conflicts between states to asymmetrical global relationships of force; from national armies to increasingly private or commercial bands of warlords, child soldiers and mercenaries; from pitched battles to protracted conflicts in which there is often little fighting and most of the violence is directed against civilians. Changes in weapons technology have combined with complex economic factors to make the prospect of endlessly simmering wars a real danger in the years to come. A philosophical investigation into the connections between trust and violence The limiting of violence through state powers is one of the central projects of the modern age. Why then have recent centuries been so bloody? In Trust and Violence, acclaimed German intellectual and public figure Jan Philipp Reemtsma demonstrates that the aim of decreasing and deterring violence has gone hand in hand with the misleading idea that violence is abnormal and beyond comprehension. We would be far better off, Reemtsma argues, if we acknowledged the disturbing fact that violence is normal. At the same time, Reemtsma contends that violence cannot be fully understood without delving into the concept of trust. Not in violence, but in trust, rests the foundation of true power.
