Diese Arbeit entstand in der Zeit von 1980 bis 1983. - Nach dem Abschluss mit dem Lizentiat in Sozial- und Wirtschafts-wissenschaften an der Universität Basel im Jahre 1979 hatte ich Kontakt mit Prof. Dr. Erhard Roy Wiehn von der Universität Konstanz aufgenommen, um sein Interesse an einer Dissertation zum Thema "Israel im Spiegel der Schweizer Presse" abzuklären. Prof. Wiehn ermutigte mich zur Auseinandersetzung mit diesem Thema. Der Nahostkonflikt ist leider seit vielen Jahren eine Reali-tät, welche regelmäßig ihren Niederschlag in der medialen Berichterstattung findet. Es gab Vermutungen, welche Schweizer Zeitungen sich kritischer oder wohlwollender mit dem Staat Israel auseinandersetzten als andere. Eine systematische Aufarbeitung fehlte allerdings. Mit dieser Arbeit wurde eine Lücke für die damalige Zeit geschlossen.
