Deals with the attitude of the socialist movement in Germany towards the Jews from the beginning of the 20th century until 1967, examining especially the politics of the SED party in the DDR after 1945. States that in East Germany, immediately after the war, something like a new beginning could be recognized, more than in West Germany; therefore, Jews who had survived in Germany or had returned after the war chose to live in East Germany. This eventual integration was temporarily stopped by Stalinist antisemitism, originating in the USSR, which spread in the 1950s. Stresses the fact that Jews who desired to integrate into the socialist society had to hide their Jewish identity.
