Ausdrücke wie '(Wirtschafts-)Asylant', Schlagwörter wie 'Mißbrauch des Asylrechts', bedrohliche Flut- und Invasionsmetaphern oder allgemein als inhuman kritisierte Redeweisen haben in den letzten Jahren viel öffentliche Aufmerksamkeit erregt. Ausländerfeindliche Gewalttaten wurden nicht zuletzt darauf zurückgeführt, wie in Medien, Politik und Alltag über Ausländer gesprochen und geschrieben wurde. Der vorliegende Band behandelt derartige Fragen aus vielfältigen Perspektiven, mit einem Schwergewicht auf linguistische Zugangsweisen. Er bringt erstmals unterschiedliche Ansätze, Forschungsgruppen und Individuen zusammen, die sprachbezogen am Thema "Migrationsdiskurs" arbeiten. Die Beiträge gehen auf eine Fachtagung zurück, die Ende 1995 in Düsseldorf stattfand, und zwar im Rahmen eines von der Deutschen Forschungsgemeinschaft geförderten Projektes.
