Auch die Kriminologie erfährt vor dem Hintergrund einiger Aspekte einen verstärkten Einfluss der in der Neurowissenschaft gesammelten Ergebnisse. Im folgenden Diskurs wird auf die Entwicklung der Hirnanatomie Bezug genommen sowie deren Verbindung zur Alters-Kriminalitäts-Kurve, deren Trajektorie als bekannt vorausgesetzt wird. Diese allgemeineren, anatomischen Ausführungen sind an vielen Punkten auf den sich anschließenden, individuellen Kontext anwendbar. Dort wird die Integrierung von Hirnentwicklung, -funktion, Delinquenz und Umwelteinflüssen zur Aufgabe. Die Notwendigkeit der Interaktion eines Organismus mit seiner Umwelt ist der Grund dafür, warum zunächst erörtert werden muss, welcher Entwicklungsbegriff dieser Arbeit zugrunde liegt. Es wäre unverständlich, die Hirnentwicklung aus einem in sich geschlossenen, natürlichen System abzutrennen und einfließende Prozesse zu übersehen. Abschließend werden präventive Ansätze vorgeschlagen.
