Eliot, Bertolt Brecht oder Boris Pasternak nach dem Zweiten Weltkrieg wieder moderne Literatur aus dem Ausland veröffentlichte und jüngeren österreichischen Autor*innen wie Ilse Aichinger, Milo Dor, Hans Lebert und Friederike Mayröcker erste Publikationsmöglichkeiten bot. Der vorliegende Band zeigt, wie literarische und essayistische Texte von einer frühen Vergangenheitsbewältigung geprägt waren und analysiert das Zusammenspiel von politischem Identitätsdiskurs, individuellem und kollektivem Gedächtnis im personellen Umfeld der Zeitschrift sowie in ausgewählten Beiträgen.The present thesis deals with the question how the Austrian discourse on identity shaped individual and collective memory in the postwar period. The analysis focusses on the Austrian literary and cultural journal "Plan" that was published by Otto Basil from 1945 to 1948. The author asks how attributions to Austrian identity as well as the assumption that Austria was a victim in the Second World War formed the discourse on identity in Austria. Furthermore, she shows how the discourse on identity became manifest in the political context and the consequences this had in the realm of literature and in the literary scene.

French and Soviet Musical Diplomacies in Post-War Austria, 1945-1955 investigates how promoting 'national' music and musicians was used as an important asset by France and the USSR in post-Nazi Austria, covering music’s role in international relations at various levels, within changing power frameworks. Bridging international relations, musical sociology, media studies, and Cold War history, four incisive chapters examine the crossroads of Soviet, French, and Austrian cultural politics and discourse-building, presented in two parts - institutions of musical diplomacy: Soviet and French cultural diplomats in comparison; sounds of music coming to Austria: Soviet and French musicians on tour. Using a communication- and media-oriented approach, this study casts new light, firstly, on the interpretative power of 'receiving' publics and, secondly, on the role of cultural transmitters at different levels.
