El fin de las ideologías y del denominado “pensamiento fuerte” nos llevó a lo largo del S. XX a la Posmodernidad, a la pérdida del sentido unitario de la verdad y los valores, al “todo vale” propio del pensamiento débil. La ausencia de ideologías y valores firmes hizo que las democracias se debilitasen y que la población perdiese todo interés por la participación política. Sin metas claras, el mundo cayó en manos del puro consumismo, del ocio anestesiante y la total falta del uso de la libertad como forma de participar en la dirección de nuestros destinos. Las democracias, abandonadas por sus bases populares, se han convertido en simples democracias formales donde los individuos se limitan, en el mejor de los casos, a la búsqueda del bienestar y a la dependencia infantil del Estado. Sin argumentos sólidos, sin ideologías que nos orienten, sin valores objetivos, los gobernantes se limitan a la adulación del pueblo, al ejercicio del populismo y a la demagogia. Y esta situación está llevándonos, cada vez de forma más clara, a los extremos políticos: de extrema izquierda, de ultraderecha, independentistas, etc. Y las democracias débiles, se debilitan aún más. Sin embargo, desde nuestra posición filosófica, creemos que aún es posible recuperar la democracia en un sentido fuerte sin, por ello, caer en el dogmatismo de las antiguas ideologías. Las ideologías murieron y no deben resucitar, pues son dogmáticas y poco dadas al diálogo racional. Sin embargo, debe ser posible recuperar los valores sociales, la racionalidad fuerte del pensamiento político y la defensa de ideas propias. Es la “libertad” como valor fundamental la que, unida a la confianza en la razón, la equidad y el diálogo, puede justificar una posición equilibrada, razonable, democrática, en fin, de centro. Estas son, pues, nuestras diez razones para ser de centro.
