This edited volume seeks to build a scholarly discourse about how Hinduism is being defined, reformed, and rearticulated in the digital era and how these changes are impacting the way Hindus view their own religious identities. It seeks to interrogate how digital Hinduism has been shaped in response to the dominant framing of the religion, which has often relied on postcolonial narratives devoid of context and an overemphasis on the geopolitics of the Indian subcontinent post-partition. The way people encounter ideas of Hinduism online is often shaped by global discourses of religion, pervasive Orientalism and (post)colonial scholarship. This book addresses a gap in the scholarly debate around defining Hinduism by demonstrating the role of online discourses in generating and projecting images of Hindu religion and culture. This study surveys a wide range of propaganda, websites and social media in which definitions of Hinduism are debated. In particular, it focuses on the role of Hindu nationalism in the presentation and management of Hinduism in the electronic public sphere. Hindu nationalist parties and individuals are highly invested in discussions and presentations of Hinduism online, and actively shape discourses through a variety of strategies. Analysing Hindu nationalist propaganda, cyber activist movements and social media presence, as well as exploring methodological strategies that are useful to the field of religion and media in general, the book concludes by showing how these discourses function in the wider Hindu diaspora. Although I wrote this book as if it is for my grandchildren, this is meant for all grandchildren and interested young adults. This book is primarily for children of Asian-Indian origin, who live outside India. The book starts with an explanation of why Hindus worship so many "gods" although the Vedas say that there is only ONE source called Brahman. I explain the meaning behind each of the forms ("gods") of the formless Primordial Source, in a simple language. This is followed by a section on the meaning behind Hindu puja and rituals. I have included an essay on meditation with a summary of ideas from the east, the west, ancient literature and modern neuro-sciences. In the final section, the reader will find a summary of important concepts from Upanishads and a few of Vedic, Hindu concepts such as Dharma, Karma, Brahman and Atman. I have added a list of meanings of Sanskrit words and a guide to Sanskrit - English transliteration to help the young readers. References are given to the sources throughout the text and a reading list is included at the end of the book. I hope that young readers who read this book will go to the original sources.
