Darüber hinaus wird dargelegt, welche Herausforderungen und Hindernisse auftreten können, die einer Umsetzung der genannten Ansätze in der Praxis entgegenstehen. Der Begriff 'digitale Transformation' beschreibt einen Veränderungsprozess durch die Nutzung moderner datengetriebener Ansätze wie unter anderem Big Data, Cloud-Computing und Internet der Dinge (IoT). 'Industrie 4.0' wird hierbei oft als Oberbegriff verwendet. Die industriellen Wertschöpfungsketten können mithilfe der genannten neuen Ansätze Ressourcen effizient nutzen und die Automatisierung kann in allen Bereichen des Unternehmens gefördert werden. Im Zusammenhang mit der Logistik haben diese Ansätze eine große Bedeutung. Potenzielle Ziele sind eine höhere Effizienz, bessere Termintreue, größere Kundenbindung und kürzere Durchlaufzeiten. Mithilfe von künstlicher Intelligenz (KI) und Robotik-Prozess-Automation (RPA) kann dieser Prozess noch besser, schneller und einfacher durchgeführt werden. Viele Industrieunternehmen haben sich entschieden, bei diesem Wandel als Wegbereiter aufzutreten, um die Vorteile neuer Technologien und die sich bietenden Möglichkeiten wie Vernetzung, Agilität und Effizienz zu nutzen, um damit ihre digitale Reife zu erhöhen und ihre Wettbewerbsposition zu stärken. Vielen von ihnen ist es bisher jedoch aufgrund von Unsicherheiten im Rahmen des Veränderungsprozesses oder hoher Investitionen in die IT-Infrastrukturen nicht gelungen, diesen Wandel zu vollziehen.

Bei dieser neuen Technologie handelt es sich um eine Software, die mithilfe von Bots, Geschäftsprozesse von Menschen automatisiert. Dies trifft viele Herausforderungen des digitalen Zeitalters im Supply Chain Management, wie zum Beispiel die Steigerung der Effizienz durch Automatisierung oder steigende Erwartungen an Produkt- und Kundenservice. Trotz fortschreitender digitaler Transformation - auch im Bereich Supply Chain - ist in vielen Prozessen des Supply Chain Managements noch immer menschliches Handeln mehrfach erforderlich. Hier könnte die Implementierung von Robotic Process Automation in vielen Prozessen zu mehr Effizienz und besserer Qualität führen.

This book investigates how the Blockchain Technology (BCT) for Supply Chain Finance (SCF) programs allows businesses to come together in partnerships and accelerate cash flows throughout the supply chain.
