This volume digitally reconstructs a 15th-century Book of Hours illuminated by Robert Boyvin, which was dismembered by a notorious American dealer. Utilising the WBRM methodology, it integrates digital humanities and philological research to restore the manuscript, addressing the ethical challenges associated with manuscript dismemberment. The study examines the manuscript’s historical context, its connection to Cardinal Georges d’Amboise, and Louis de La Londe. Through provenance and dating analysis, it provides a comprehensive understanding of this cultural treasure and advocates against biblioclasm. It underscores the ethical responsibility of preserving our heritage, critiques the complicity of some scholars in manuscript dismemberment, and highlights the omission of critical information in cataloguing platforms. Aimed at scholars, preservationists, and enthusiasts, this book revitalises a dismembered masterpiece and enriches the discourse on the ethical handling of historical artefacts.

This book offers a timely and courageous reflection on the challenges of studying dismembered manuscripts in the digital age. At the intersection of philology, heritage studies, and media ethics, Jordi Lluis Puig explores the mechanisms — both historical and contemporary — by which medieval codices have been dismembered, sold, and sometimes erased from collective memory. Drawing from concrete case studies and current controversies, including the widely discussed "Receptiogate" involving Prof. Carla Rossi and her work on biblioclasm, Puig investigates how scholarly authority is constructed, attacked, and defended in the face of commercial and institutional pressures. The book engages with ongoing debates on open access, manuscript digitisation, the politics of platforms, and the responsibilities of scholars in protecting cultural memory. This is not merely a work of analysis, but a call to ethical clarity: Puig’s research urges academics, institutions, and the public to confront the practices that endanger manuscript heritage and to stand against the normalisation of biblioclasm. The Madruzzo Book of Hours was a splendid 15th-century illuminated manuscript, dismembered in 2017, with its folios resold individually through various channels, including public platforms like eBay and clandestine auctions. This essay presents the meticulous digital reconstruction of the manuscript while examining its artistic origins in the prestigious Flemish workshop of the Vrelant family and its commission by Maria Maddalena della Torre. In addition to its historical and artistic significance, the book delves into the legal and ethical challenges surrounding manuscript dismemberment. It sheds light on the international complicity of biblioclast networks that exploit cultural artefacts for profit and the covert auction systems that enable these practices. With incisive analysis, the author uncovers the systemic violence—both literal and symbolic—used to protect these illicit trades and advocates for stronger legal frameworks to combat such exploitation. A groundbreaking contribution to manuscript studies, art history, and cultural heritage law, this book reveals a compelling narrative of resilience, urging action to preserve the integrity of our shared history.

The ReceptioGate Affair is a scholarly volume that documents, analyses, and contextualises one of the most virulent defamation campaigns in recent European academia—a campaign aimed at discrediting a centre for manuscript research, RECEPTIO, and its director, Prof. Carla Rossi. More than a case study in reputational warfare, the book offers a rigorous investigation into the forces that oppose transparency in the art market, particularly regarding the commercial dismemberment of medieval manuscripts. Divided into four parts, the volume offers a comprehensive chronology of the smear campaign, a legal and philological deconstruction of the plagiarism allegations, a detailed reflection on institutional silence, and a final manifesto advocating for manuscript ethics in the digital age. It highlights the complicity of certain academic networks with private interests, showing how pseudo-scholarly blogs, social media campaigns, and poorly designed software tools were used to delegitimise independent research. Drawing upon extensive documentation, including legal submissions, internal emails, press retractions, and first-hand accounts, the book dismantles the accusations and reveals their origin in a conflict of interest between manuscript scholarship and manuscript commerce. The central chapters—based on Prof. Rossi’s published rebuttals and the legal expertise submitted before the Swiss Federal Administrative Court—clarify that the accusations of plagiarism, self-plagiarism, and institutional fabrication were not only unfounded, but part of a broader strategy to silence a voice critical of biblioclasm. In doing so, The ReceptioGate Affair becomes not merely a work of documentation but a template for academic resistance.

William Blake, poet and artist, is a figure often understood to have 'created his own system'. Combining close readings and detailed analysis of a range of Blake's work, from lyrical songs to later myth, from writing to visual art, this collection of thirty-eight lively and authoritative essays examines what Blake had in common with his contemporaries, the writers who influenced him, and those he influenced in turn. Chapters from an international team of leading scholars also attend to his wider contexts: material, formal, cultural, and historical, to enrich our understanding of, and engagement with, Blake's work. Accessibly written, incisive, and informed by original research, William Blake in Context enables readers to appreciate Blake anew, from both within and outside of his own idiom.

The Blitz Companion offers a unique overview of a century of aerial warfare, its impact on cities and the people who lived in them. It tells the story of aerial warfare from the earliest bombing raids and in World War 1 through to the London Blitz and Allied bombings of Europe and Japan. These are compared with more recent American air campaigns over Cambodia and Vietnam in the 1960s and 1970s, the NATO bombings during the Balkan Wars of the 1990s, and subsequent bombings in the aftermath of 9/11. Beginning with the premonitions and predictions of air warfare and its terrible consequences, the book focuses on air raids precautions, evacuation and preparations for total war, and resilience, both of citizens and of cities. The legacies of air raids, from reconstruction to commemoration, are also discussed. While a key theme of the book is the futility of many air campaigns, care is taken to situate them in their historical context. The Blitz Companion also includes a guide to documentary and visual resources for students and general readers. Uniquely accessible, comparative and broad in scope this book draws key conclusions about civilian experience in the twentieth century and what these might mean for military engagement and civil reconstruction processes once conflicts have been resolved.
