Various socio-demographic, medical, technological, and managerial trends determine the emergence and development of the concept of the “Smart Hospital”, as well as the development and implementation of appropriate complex architectural models in the management practice of medical organizations. In turn, such medical organizations require an innovative health care ecosystem to provide medically and economically efficient healthcare services. This book examines various approaches to the modern healthcare system to provide an effective internal environment for the medical organization as well as an effective external environment for better interaction with all stakeholders of the greater healthcare system. It addresses the challenges of digital technology adoption in specialized areas (e.g., cardiology, surgery, neonatology, etc.) and of the dissemination of knowledge, technology, innovation, and entrepreneurial initiatives as well as communication between stakeholders. It then explores the development of the Smart Hospital by analyzing the internal architecture of medical organizations, key factors of their transformation, architecture of IT and digital technologies and data-driven management. Finally, this book explores the ways in which entrepreneurship and entrepreneurial leadership promote innovation and well-being in different organizational contexts, with special emphasis on human resource management, intellectual capital, and abusive leadership of public, social, and business sector contexts.

"Long COVID: Scars and Opportunity." The title of this report has two meanings. First, that the disease will leave in its wake a durably damaged economy. Second, that the disease is not leaving any time soon and may be here to stay. This duality reflects the two themes of this Update. In the near time, the persistence of the pandemic will prolong human and economic distress unless individuals and firms can adapt. In the longer-term, COVID-19 will reduce growth and increase inequality unless we can remedy the scars and grasp the opportunities created by the pandemic. Accordingly, policy action must help economic agents not just to adjust today but also to make choices that avert economic sluggishness and disparity tomorrow. We begin by addressing three proximate questions: What is happening to the economies? Why? And what can we expect? We then discuss the longer-term impact of COVID-19, on growth through the impact on firms and on inequality through the impact on households.

Population aging is a consistent global demographic trend. The growth in both the size and proportion of older adults has threatened the sustainability of health systems in meeting healthcare needs of the population. Countries in the Asia-Pacific Region may face even more complex health system challenges due to the diversity in culture, management and leadership styles, composition of health service provision, investment in research infrastructure and innovation adaptation, data availability, and gaps in information technology. The Asia-Pacific is home to more than half of the world’s population and comprises countries across five Asia-Pacific subregions: East and North-East Asia, North and Central Asia, Pacific, South East Asia, South, and South West Asia. The economies are diverse, including six high-income countries (such as Australia, Brunei, Japan, New Zealand, South Korea, and Singapore), low-income countries (Nepal and North Korea), and middle-income countries. The region also includes some of the fastest-growing economies in the world, including China, India, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, and the Philippines.
