This is an excellent and enlightened book, simple and yet complex. The ways these basic concerns are taken up are clearly described, with plenty of examples, and are always dealt with great thoughtfulness.

Every therapist is faced with dilemmas in the consulting room. While psychoanalysis has concentrated on the issues of theory and technique, there has not been much material available on the actual clinical exchanges in the consulting room. The papers in this volume deal with practical matters within the consultation room, as well as emotional responses; reflections on the therapeutic relationship; and issues such as violence and suicide. This volume acts as a guide which can help therapists overcome certain problems and develop their own 'clinical style within a holding framework.'

Life in the Consulting Room offers a series of noteworthy vignettes that occurred in the author's consulting room. Although the context and objective of each consultation varied, the decision to present them here is due to a particularly interesting feature of the patient's life or a significant point that arose during their interview with the author. Many of the cases have issues of academic interest but these are not pursued here. Instead, these accounts should be seen as portraits, "snapshots" that were considered emotionally interesting and intellectually stimulating. Some of these patients were in short- or long-term therapy, but most cases were being assessed to determine whether psychotherapy was in fact the best way of helping them. No doubt all psychodynamic practitioners will have met some of these findings in their practice, but the present book offers a particularly significant collection of clinical episodes.

Coming To Life In The Consulting Room written by Thomas H. Ogden and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2021-12 with Psychology categories.

"Ogden sets out a movement in contemporary psychoanalysis toward a new sensibility, reflecting a shift in emphasis from what he calls "epistemological psychoanalysis" (having to do with knowing and understanding) to "ontological psychoanalysis" (having to do with being and becoming). Ogden clinically illustrates his way of dreaming the analytic session and of inventing psychoanalysis with each patient. Using the works of Winnicott and Bion, he finds a turn in the analytic conception of mind in which mind from conceiving of mind as a thing-a "mental apparatus"-to viewing mind as a living process located in the very act of experiencing. Ogden closes the volume with discussions of being and becoming that occur in reading the poetry of Robert Frost and Emily Dickinson, and in the practice of analytic writing. This book will be of great interest not only to psychoanalysts and psychotherapists interested in the shift in analytic theory and practice Ogden describes, but also to those interested in ideas concerning the way the mind and human experiencing are created"--

The Impossibility Of Knowing written by Jackie Gerrard and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2018-05-08 with Psychology categories.

This is a book that assembles and integrates the author's clinical work and thinking over the many years of her working life. Part 1 focuses on patients with specific types of psychopathology and explores particular difficulties in technique and thinking. Part 2 addresses the issues of love, hate, and the erotic. In Part 3, specific challenges to the psychotherapeutic frame are demonstrated in chapters on enactments and on work with an absent patient. Richly illustrated throughout with clinical vignettes, above all, the author stresses the importance of the enquiring mind and the struggle not to "know" but to be ever ready to "not know" and to explore. The book should be of interest to qualified practitioners, to those who are training in psychodynamic or psychoanalytic work, and to anyone who has an interest in psychoanalysis and the "impossibility of knowing".

Dialogues Between Psychoanalysis And Architecture written by Christina Moutsou and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2023-10 with Architecture categories.

"Dialogues Between Psychoanalysis and Architecture explores the multisensory space of therapy, real or virtual, and how important it is in providing the container for the therapeutic relationship and process. This book is highly original in bringing psychoanalysis and architecture together and highlighting how both disciplines strive to achieve transformation of our psychic space. It brings together contributions that comprise three parts: the first explores the space of the consulting room through the senses to examine issues such as smell and its link with memory and belonging, hearing out the Other, the psychoanalytic couch, the medical therapy room and the so-called sixth sense; secondly, the book questions how the consulting room can represent or be redesigned to reflect the philosophy that underlies the therapy process, foregrounding an architectural point of view; and thirdly, the book attends to the significance of the consulting room as a virtual space, as it emerged during the pandemic of covid-19 and beyond. Architectural, psychotherapeutic and interdisciplinary perspectives allow for an important new dimension on the psychological use of space, and will appeal to psychoanalysts, psychoanalytic and integrative psychotherapists, art therapists, students of psychotherapy as well as to architects and designers"--
