The Director And Directing written by Adam J. Ledger and has been published by Springer this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2019-04-02 with Performing Arts categories.

This book critically assesses the artistry of contemporary directors. Its discussion includes the work of Declan Donnellan, Thomas Ostermeier, Deborah Warner, Simon Stone and Krzysztof Warlikowski. Alongside the work of wider theorists (Patrice Pavis and Erika Fischer-Lichte), it uses neuroaesthetic theory (Semir Zeki) and cognitive and creative process models to offer an original means to discuss the performance event, emotion, brain structures and concepts, and the actor’s body in performance. It offers first-hand observation of rehearsals led by Katie Mitchell, Ivo van Hove, Carrie Cracknell and the Steppenwolf Theatre. It also explores devising in relation to the work of Simon McBurney and contemporary groups, and scenography in relation to the work of Dmitry Krymov, Robert Wilson and Robert Lepage. The Director and Directing argues that the director creates a type of knowledge, ‘reward’ and ‘resonant experience’ (G. Gabrielle Starr) through instinctive and expert choices.

How do you decide what stories an audience should hear? How do you make your theatre stand out in a crowded and intensely competitive marketplace? How do you make your building a home for artistic risk and innovation, while ensuring the books are balanced? It is the artistic director's job to answer all these questions, and many more. Yet, despite the central role that these people play in the modern theatre industry, very little has been written about what they do or how they do it. In The Art of the Artistic Director, Christopher Haydon (former artistic director of the Gate Theatre, 'London's most relentlessly ambitious theatre' – Time Out) compiles a fascinating set of interviews that get to the heart of what it is to occupy this unique role. He speaks to twenty of the most prominent and successful artistic directors in the US and UK, including: Oskar Eustis (Public Theater, New York), Diane Paulus (American Repertory Theater, Boston), Rufus Norris (National Theatre, London) and Vicky Featherstone (Royal Court Theatre, London), uncovering the essential skills and abilities that go into making an accomplished artistic director. The only book of its kind available, The Art of the Artistic Director includes a foreword by Michael Grandage, former artistic director of the Sheffield Crucible and the Donmar Warehouse in London.

In December 2015, I set myself a challenge to post a short piece about some aspect of business process management (BPM) on LinkedIn every week throughout 2016. There were a couple of near misses, but I made it-52 posts under the title Process Precepts, each sent out on Saturday morning, wherever I was in the world. This book comes directly from those posts. My objective was to capture the reactions of others to the content of the posts; to assemble an eclectic collection of ideas that responded to my thoughts in a variety of interesting ways. I wanted a diverse group of commentators who would agree, disagree, extend my ideas, narrow my ideas, go off at a useful tangent and, generally, use each of my posts as a launch pad for an extended conversation. The final team of sixteen commentators contains academics, vendors, consultants, and authors. Importantly, it also contains many people whose job descriptions task them to bring process management theory and practice to life in the gritty reality of managing a real organization-with all its complexities, latencies, impossible demands, and human frailties and potentials. The sixteen contributors to this book are: Jitendra Agrawal, Senior Vice President, business and Service Excellence, HDFC Life, India Basma AlBuhairan, Managing Director, Health Care and Life Sciences, Saudi Arabian General Investment Authority, Saudi Arabia Tom Davenport, Distinguished Professor of Information Technology and Management, Babson College, Boston, USA Gaby Doebeli, Business Architect and Analyst, Brisbane City Council, Australia Joseph Drasin Director of Process Improvement and Innovation, University of Maryland, College Park, USA Paul Harmon, Executive Editor, BPTrends and Senior Consultant, Cutter Consortium, Las Vegas, USA Prashant Hoskote, Senior Director-Quality, Service Excellence and Innovation, Max Group, New Delhi, India Emiel Kelly, Process Common Sensei, Procesje.nl, Ho

The Stage Director’s Prompt Book is a step-by-step, detailed guide on how to create a practical and powerful rehearsal and performance tool—the director’s prompt book. A prompt book is a coordinating and organizational tool for the stage director. This book systematizes the creative process the director uses to analyze and interpret a play and coordinates all director-related rehearsal and production activities into a single, self-contained interpretive and organizational system. This book guides the director through the necessary steps and stages of creating and using a prompt book—from play analysis and interpretation, through the formation of a dynamic and theatrical director’s vision, to a unique method of physicalizing a play in production. A prompt book of a one-act play is included in the book as a complete example of the system. Such techniques as redlining, color coding and creating a three-column left-hand page are vividly illustrated for readers, allowing them to assemble their own prompt books. In a clear and example-driven format, The Stage Director’s Prompt Book offers a system of directorial interpretation that takes the director through a series of point-by point instructions to construct a strong, effective and creative instrument for success. For the undergraduate and graduate student of theatre directing, stage management and producing courses, along with aspiring professional directors, this book provides an interactive and intuitive approach to personalize the stage directing experience and assemble a graphically dynamic and creative director’s prompt book.
