Esta tese teve como objetivo geral traçar diretrizes para mitigar as barreiras que dificultam a implementação da Gestão do Conhecimento em organizações. Visando atingir tal desígnio, inicialmente, foram averiguados na literatura temas relacionados à Gestão do Conhecimento e às suas barreiras. Para tanto, a fim de proporcionar uma consistência teórica-empírica na investigação, efetuou-se uma revisão sistemática para elucidar um número considerável de possíveis barreiras que possam estar originando obstáculos à Gestão do Conhecimento, mais especificamente ao compartilhamento do conhecimento. O intuito foi oferecer um ponto de partida mais compreensivo acerca do assunto. Em seguida, realizou-se uma pesquisa acadêmica e aplicada na empresa Itaipu Binacional, objeto de estudo. O método de investigação que caracterizou a pesquisa foi o estudo de caso e se optou por um estudo exploratório e descritivo. A amostra, não probabilística e intencional, constitui-se de cinco gerentes que ocupam o nível tático da empresa e estão administrando de modo estratégico o assunto na Instituição. Importante frisar que os dados foram obtidos junto a fontes primárias e secundárias, por intermédio da aplicação de um questionário com perguntas fechadas, contendo afirmativas aos sujeitos selecionados, bem como entrevistas estruturadas. A fonte secundária consubstanciou-se de dados e informações conseguidas mediante artigos e documentos da Itaipu Binacional. A análise dos dados foi efetuada de maneira descritivo-interpretativa, cujos procedimentos metodológicos adotados foram qualitativos e quantitativos. Para o tratamento dos dados coletados utilizou-se da análise de conteúdo e análise documental. Basicamente, os resultados do presente estudo revelaram que na empresa existem algumas barreiras à Gestão do Conhecimento, tais como: barreira quanto a estrutura organizacional, barreiras relacionadas às iniciativas de Gestão do Conhecimento, entre outras. Com base nos resultados da pesquisa, pode-se dizer que cada ambiente organizacional tem suas barreiras peculiares à Gestão do Conhecimento.
