Many great books have been written about the symptoms and treatment for anxiety, but what if you don't even know that anxiety is the culprit in your life or the life of someone you care about? That was certainly the case for author and Pastor John Ciesniewski who at age 49 uncovered the anxiety he never knew and discovered hope for his future. Each chapter is entertaining, thought provoking and eye opening as John transparently shares details from childhood through adulthood that will help you uncover the anxiety you never knew while reassuring you that you're not alone and that there is hope.

World Magazine Book of the Year Creative Quarterly Professional Graphic Design Runner-Up Christianity Today's Book of the Year Winner ECPA Top Shelf Book Cover Award "This book will make no attempt to defend God. . . . If you are looking for a book that boasts triumphantly of conquest over a great enemy, or gives a detached philosophical analysis that neatly solves an absorbing problem, this isn't it." Too often the Christian attitude toward suffering is characterized by a detached academic appeal to God's sovereignty, as if suffering were a game or a math problem. Or maybe we expect that since God is good, everything will just work out all right somehow. But where then is honest lament? Aren't we shortchanging believers of the riches of the Christian teaching about suffering? In Embodied Hope Kelly Kapic invites us to consider the example of our Lord Jesus. Only because Jesus has taken on our embodied existence, suffered alongside us, died, and been raised again can we find any hope from the depths of our own dark valleys of pain. As we look to Jesus, we are invited to participate not only in his sufferings, but also in the church, which calls us out of isolation and into the encouragement and consolation of the communal life of Christ. Drawing on his own family's experience with prolonged physical pain, Kapic reshapes our understanding of suffering into the image of Jesus, and brings us to a renewed understanding of—and participation in—our embodied hope.

The phrase "hopeful politics" has dominated our public discourse in connection with the inspiring rise of Nelson Mandela in South Africa and the remarkable election of Barack Obama as president of the United States. But what happens when that hope disappoints? Can it be salvaged? What is the relationship between faith, hope, and politics? In this book Allan Boesak meditates on what it really means to hope in light of present political realities and growing human pain. He argues that hope comes to life only when we truly face reality in the struggle for justice, dignity, and the life of the earth. Dare We Speak of Hope? is a critical, provocative, prophetic -- and, above all, hopeful -- book.

This volume shares the stories of 120 people whose lives were changed thanks to their personal relationship with Jesus Christ. In 2014, Lindsay Schuling Cooper made a New Year’s resolution to read the Bible from beginning to end. Her eagerness to read daily turned into pure joy. In February she began praying to God, “Lord, use me to do your works.” Then Lindsay received her assignment. In June of 2015, Lindsay began interviewing people, asking two questions: “What can you say about God?” and “How has He changed your life or worked in it?”. She planned on interviewing fifty people. Within three months, that number grew to 120. Lindsay started out in her comfort zone, but God led her elsewhere. She met with people in churches, shelters, and even jails. Kindred Faith shares the stories of the people she met—stories of God’s people, whose faith in Him impacted their lives.

"Hope expresses more than an area of concentration in Ellul's thought; it is the central idea that binds his disparate elements together. Ellul believed that at this moment of history, the world since 1945, hope must preoccupy our thinking and lives. "To understand hope we must first comprehend its absence. This entails discerning what causes the absence of hope, namely the world's embrace of technique and the abandonment of God. Ellul also rejected these as a positive affirmation. He wanted to make a firm distinction between reality and truth. He affirmed modern abandonment as a realistic fact, as an accurate analysis of the present condition, not as an affirmation of the truth. Hope is truth in Jesus Christ, but truth must be asserted against these harsh facts. He used facts to incite hope in believers, to shake their complacency and to realize their actual condition in the world . . . . The idea of hope in the thought of Jacques Ellul can only be properly understood in light of dialectic struggle between negatives, which amount to factual representations of the modern world, and positives, through which hope exerts itself in the face of these facts. From this tension will issue personal resolve. Technique has brought the world to great collective heights and achievements, but this has come at the expense of personal ends and meaning. Ellul attempted to bridge this gap by asserting individual meaning against the aggregated progress of technique without destroying the gains made by collective advance. This represents the central dilemma in Ellul's thought--how does one maintain meaning and personal aims in a world founded on corporate necessity?" --from the Introduction

Hope is a central topic in spiritual care. This short book explores what hope can mean for patients who are at the end of life, beyond hoping that a treatment will be effective. It suggests ways in which creative spiritual care can enable patients and those who care for them to develop different kinds of hope and move past despair. The author identifies four dimensions of hope and suggests ways in they can be nurtured and cultivated through theological reflection, connectivity, meditation and the arts. These dimensions of hope provide a framework for thorough spiritual assessment and for the development of a plan of care. In turn, being prepared for death removes feelings of hopelessness and despair. This book will inspire new ways to feed the human spirit when a cure is no longer an option.
