Descripción / Resumen (Español / Castellano): El objetivo principal de esta tesis doctoral consiste en mostrar la influencia que el desarrollo de la biología tuvo sobre la filosofía en los albores de la Modernidad, y muy especialmente en G. W. Leibniz. Sostengo que no se puede alcanzar una comprensión correcta de su pensamiento filosófico sin tomar en consideración el influjo que recibió de las ciencias de la vida. Trato, además, de ensayar esta clave interpretativa con algunos de los conceptos centrales del pensamiento leibniziano. La tesis trata sobre biología y metafísica en los albores de la Modernidad. Creo que la biología marcó profundamente en los inicios de la Modernidad el desarrollo de la metafísica. Así fue en muchos autores, por ejemplo, en los Van Helmont o Diderot, pero el caso más evidente e influyente fue el de Leibniz, de quien trataremos con más detalle a lo largo del trabajo. Si bien Leibniz ha de ser interpretado en el contexto de una época, la suya, en la que se dio esta influencia de la biología sobre la metafísica de modo generalizado, no podemos dejar de contemplar y ocuparnos de la posición dominante en los siglos XVII-XVIII: el mecanicismo cartesiano. Hemos querido hacer en este trabajo de investigación una resignificación y reinterpretación de Leibniz desde un enfoque vitalista, recogiendo a ese otro Leibniz biólogo y médico, en constante debate con numerosos filósofos del momento, seguidores de posturas más mecanicistas. El tema de la presente disertación doctoral se basa en el trabajo desarrollado en la Tesina doctoral acerca también de esta temática y que titulé: G. W. Leibniz: de la biología a la metafísica. Descripción / Resumen (Inglés): The main objective of this doctoral thesis is to show the influence that the development of biology had on philosophy at the dawn of Modernity, and especially on G.W. Leibniz. I contend that a correct understanding of his philosophical thought cannot be reached without taking into account the influence it received from the life sciences. I also try to test this interpretive key with some of the central concepts of Leibnizian thought. The thesis deals with biology and metaphysics at the dawn of Modernity. I believe that biology profoundly marked the development of metaphysics at the beginning of Modernity. This was the case for many authors, for example, the Van Helmont or Diderot, but the most obvious and influential case was that of Leibniz, whom we will deal with in more detail throughout the work. Although Leibniz has to be interpreted in the context of a time, his, in which this influence of biology on metaphysics occurred in a generalized way, we cannot help but contemplate and occupy ourselves with the dominant position in the XVII-XVIII centuries: Cartesian Mechanism. We wanted to do in this research work a resignification and reinterpretation of Leibniz from a vitalist approach, collecting that other biologist and doctor Leibniz, in constant debate with numerous philosophers of the moment, followers of more mechanistic positions. The subject of this doctoral dissertation is based on the work developed in the doctoral dissertation on this subject as well, which I entitled: G.W. Leibniz: from biology to metaphysics.
