Resumen: El objetivo de este trabajo fue diseñar un manual de bioseguridad del laboratorio clínico del Hospital Departamental de Cartago E.S.E con el fin de asegurar que todos los procedimientos del laboratorio estén acondicionados y se realicen de la mejor manera posible, promoviendo las buenas prácticas en la manipulación de las muestras y sustancias químicas, logrando que todo el personal del laboratorio consiga un nivel óptimo de educación y concientización en este campo. Este manual también se enfoca en otros puntos fundamentales en el funcionamiento de un laboratorio, como lo es la condición de la infraestructura y que sus características cumplen a cabalidad los requisitos estipulados en las normas. Para ello se realizó un diagnóstico de las condiciones de trabajo para determinar el riesgo de las actividades que se ejecutan y así diseñar los protocolos de bioseguridad adecuados. Además de esto se propone un plan de residuos hospitalarios para el cumplimiento del decreto 2676 del año 2000. Finalmente se presenta una herramienta para él control del cumplimiento de los protocolos que se proponen en este manual. Además, se estudia la distribución actual del laboratorio, y se propone una redistribución de planta que permita mejorar las condiciones de protección y seguridad del personal de la salud que labora en este.
