Die Diskurslinguistik als relativ neue Teildisziplin der germanistischen Linguistik beschäftigt sich mit der Frage, wie soziale Wirklichkeiten in transtextuell organisierten Einheiten konstruiert werden. Bisher finden dabei noch kaum Texte aus digitalen Medien (z.B. aus Twitter) Berücksichtigung. Ziel ist es, das Programm und das Methodeninventar der Diskurslinguistik in zwei Richtungen zu erweitern: Zum einen sollen die spezifischen Beschreibungskategorien und Analysewerkzeuge für Diskurse in digitalen Medien systematisiert werden. Zum anderen sollen Methoden und Instrumente der Korpuslinguistik und Digital Methods im Hinblick auf die Anforderungen der Diskurslinguistik evaluiert und ausgebaut werden. Die Publikation thematisiert Spezifika digitaler Medien und Plattformen aus diskurslinguistischer Sicht und beschreibt, welche charakteristischen Muster sich aus diesen Spezifika in digitalen Diskursen ergeben. Zudem werden ethische und rechtliche Aspekte bei der Analyse digitaler Diskurse (z.B. Anonymisierung digitaler (Sprach-)Daten) thematisiert. In einem umfassenden Methodenkapitel geben die Autor/-innen zudem einen Überblick über relevante Methoden für digitale Diskursanalysen, deren Einsatz an Fallbeispielen illustriert wird.

This book, the first systematic exploration of the third person in English, German, and French, takes a fresh look at person reference within the realm of political discourse. By focusing on the newly refined speech role of the target, attention is given to the continuity between second and third grammatical persons as a system. The role played by third-person forms in creating and maintaining interpersonal relationships in discourse has been surprisingly overlooked. Until now, third-person forms have overwhelmingly been considered as referring to the absent, i.e. to someone outside the communication situation, other than the speaker or the hearer: the “nonperson”. By broadening the scope and finally integrating the third person, we come to understand The Politics of Person Reference fully, and to see the strategic, argumentative, and dialogical nature of the act of referring to other discourse participants, understood as the act of creating new referents.

Decentering Comparative Analysis in a Globalizing World aims to go beyond the traditional criticism in comparative analysis. In Digital Image Systems, Claus Gunti examines the antagonizing reactions to digital technologies in photography. While Thomas Ruff, Andreas Gursky and Jörg Sasse have gradually adopted digital imaging tools in the early 1990s, other photographers from the Düsseldorf School have remained faithful to film-based technologies. By evaluating the aesthetic and discursive preconditions of this situation and by extensively analyzing the digital work of these three photographers, this book shows that the digital turn in photography was anticipated by the conceptualization of images within systems, and thus offers new perspectives for understanding the »digital revolution«.
