Family Therapy of Neurobehavioral Disorders shows you a unique integration of neuropsychology and family therapy. Authors Judith L. Johnson and William G. McCown span these two broad areas by synthesizing family therapy principles and applying them specifically to traumatic brain injury and degenerative dementia. Family therapists, neuropsychologists, social workers, and counselors working with patients who experience brain dysfunction and their families learn to better address common issues and problems and of therapeutic interventions. This expert book includes case examples and working models of family reactions. The book then extends this information into practical clinical situations commonly confronted in work with these patients and their families. Readers of Family Therapy of Neurobehavioral Disorders are introduced to brain-behavior relationships including neuroanatomy of the brain as it relates to behavior, dynamics of neurologic disorders, and common symptoms of brain dysfunction. You can then use this information to help persons with traumatic brain injury and their families cope with and adjust to the issues and challenges they face. Specifically, you gain invaluable, informative insight into: the neuroanatomy of the brain and which structures mediate behavior, emotion, and cognition common issues families face when a member suffers traumatic brain injury therapeutic strategies and practical suggestions for assisting families mild head injury and familial reactions common issues faced by families confronting Alzheimer’s disease or other dementias a model of family reactions to dementia over time Chapters in Family Therapy of Neurobehavioral Disorders outline symptoms of brain dysfunction and family therapy designed to approach these symptoms. Divided into two sections, the book gives readers a model of traumatic brain injury beginning with the initial onset and proceeding through time. This section focuses on changes within the family and therapeutic strategies for helping these distressed families. Secondly, the authors address degenerative dementia with emphases on certain phases through which family members may progress as they acknowledge their loved one’s condition and then therapeutically work through the reality of it. Professionals in the medical and social sciences will find Family Therapy of Neurobehavioral Disorders a unique and irreplacable guide for developing and understanding the meshing of neuropsychology and family therapy. Also, the book serves as a solid text for students in courses such as rehabilitation, counseling, and family therapy. Translated into Spanish!

Since the turn of the twenty-first century, the field of positive psychology has sought to implement a science of human flourishing so that we may lead happier, more fulfilling lives. It has found expression not only in academic papers but also popular books and, increasingly, in government policy. The Routledge International Handbook of Critical Positive Psychology is the first volume dedicated to a critical appraisal of this influential but controversial field of study. The book critically examines not only the scientific foundations of positive psychology, but also the sociocultural and political tenets on which the field rests. It evaluates the current field of knowledge and practice, and includes chapters analysing the methodological constructs of the field, as well as others that question what positive psychology actually means by ideas such as happiness or well-being. Taking the debate further, the book then discusses how positive psychology can be applied in a wider variety of settings than is presently the case, helping communities and individuals by acknowledging the reality of people’s lives rather than adhering strictly to debateable theoretical constructs. Including contributions from disciplines ranging from psychoanalysis to existential therapy, theology to philosophy, and contributors from throughout the world, The Routledge International Handbook of Critical Positive Psychology will be enlightening reading for anyone interested in how psychology has sought to understand human well-being.

Guidelines For The Systematic Treatment Of The Depressed Patient written by Larry E. Beutler and has been published by Oxford University Press on Demand this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2000 with Medical categories.

From initial consultation to termination of treatment, psychologists and other mental health practitioners make a series of crucial decisions to determine the progress and therapy of the patient. These decisions have varied implications such as the clinical course of the patient, the efficacy and efficiency of the treatment, and the cost of the sessions. Thus, the decisions made by mental health professionals need to be accurate and consistent, respecting a series of guidelines that will ultimately benefit the patient. This is the first in a series of guidebooks that is designed to do just that by providing practitioners with some structure in the development of treatment programs. Previous guidelines have been based on consensus panels of experts or on the opinions of membership groups, causing guidelines to be very far off from the findings of empirical research. Here, guidelines are presented in terms of treatment principles rather than in terms of specific treatment models or theories, and they do not favor one theory of psychotherapy over another. Instead, they define strategies and considerations that can be woven into comprehensive treatment programs. The entire series of guidebooks will cover numerous topics, including anxiety disorders, drug abuse, alcohol abuse, and treatment of serious mental disorders. This volume will cover in detail the nature of depression, issues in treatment research, contemporary treatments, and implications for education and training. It is ideal for postgraduates and professionals in the mental health field and is intended to provide important background on treatment of non-bipolar depressive disorders.

Introduction To Psychotherapy written by J. A. Hadfield and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2015-08-11 with Psychology categories.

First published in 1967, the original blurb reads: This book is intended to give the intelligent lay reader a comprehensive view of the subject of psychotherapy, the treatment of nervous disorders by mental means. These disorders are of increasing importance on account of their wide-spread nature and of the misery they produce. It describes the development of psychotherapy as employed by the most primitive peoples and races, through animal magnetism and hypnotism to the more modern analytical schools of Freud, Jung and Adler. It sets out in particular to give the positive contributions of these various systems, although this does not preclude criticism of their weaknesses and more dubious theories. Dr Hadfield has had the widest experience, having treated psychoneurotic disorders for over fifty years, including the war neuroses in the two world wars, both in the Navy and in the Army; and, as Lecturer in the University of London in the subject for over forty years, he has had the opportunity to systematize the knowledge thus obtained. As a result of this experience he has come to conclusions as to the nature, causes and treatment of such disorders differing somewhat from those of the established Schools, and it is these findings which are given in the latter part of the book under the title, ‘Direct Reductive Analysis’. The book will be useful to all those – teachers and parsons as well as medicals – who have to deal with human beings and their aberrations, and to them it is addressed.
