Este libro constituye un valioso aporte a la reflexión sobre interculturalidad en el sistema de educación superior ecuatoriano. Desentrañar las múltiples y conflictivas relaciones derivadas de una historia de conquista y dominación, de hegemonía e incomprensión, representa una tarea aún ampliamente pendiente en América Latina. Concebir formas de ciudadanía que reconozcan derechos auténticos para todos y, a la vez, respeten las diferencias entre los pueblos (tanto en sus concepciones del mundo como en lo que toca a sus sensibilidades) es un reto aún mayor. Intentar colaborar con el desarrollo de nuevos ciudadanos interculturales desde el trabajo universitario es, tal vez, la tarea más importante de todas, la más enaltecedora y también la más difícil. En este libro, de una manera muy inicial y modesta, intentamos abordar este reto triple: dar cuenta de la realidad de la interculturalidad, teorizar sobre ella y proponer una educación ciudadana desde esa perspectiva. El volumen encuentra sus orígenes en un curso sobre Ciudadanía y Liderazgo Intercultural, ofrecido por un equipo de docentes de la Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú y destinado a estudiantes y docentes tutores de un programa de acción afirmativa promovido por la Fundación Ford en la Universidad de la Frontera (Temuco, Chile), y en la Universidad Nacional San Antonio Abad del Cusco (Perú).
