Is your workplace truly diverse? In this gem amongst diversity, equity and inclusion books, Dr. Poornima Luthra challenges us to address the inequality in the 21st Century that exists by expanding the dimensions of diversity in the workplace we address; to define diversity in the workplace in a way that truly represents our whole diverse selves. This book contains everything you need to develop a solid understanding of the various dimensions of diversity and the biases that arise from them. Poornima provides us with the tools needed to address our biases, have inclusive conversations and be an active ally of inclusion. Whether you are an individual employee, team manager, or CEO, Diversifying Diversity is your guide to active allyship in the workplace. When you think of diversity, what comes to mind? Gender? Ethnicity? Age? Sexual orientation? How about physical abilities or neurodiversity? What about educational background, experiences, personality, beliefs, socio-economic background, ways of working or parenthood choices? These are all dimensions of diversity that make up our diversity thumbprint. The questions we need to be asking ourselves are: are we seeing this level of diversity and inclusion in the workplace?, how do we make this a reality? and what does this inclusion in action look like? Case studies from Maersk Tankers, Carlsberg Group, IKEA Retail, Telia Company, Be My Eyes, Project Access International, Stack Recruitment, and Kromann Reumert provide inspiration, and a blueprint for inclusion in the workplace.

"Diversifying the teaching force has become a priority in many migrant-receiving jurisdictions worldwide with the growing mismatch between the ethnic backgrounds, cultures, languages, and religions of teachers and those of students and families. Arguments for diversification tend to be couched in terms of disproportionate representation and students from minority backgrounds needing positive role models, yet research identifies other compelling reasons for diversification, including the fact that teachers of migrant backgrounds often possess outstanding qualifications when multilingualism and internationally obtained education and experience are taken into account, and the fact that all students, including majority-background students, benefit from a diversity of role models in schools. Nevertheless, the process of diversification is fraught with complexity. Depending on the context, systemic discrimination, an oversupply of teachers in the profession generally, and outdated hiring policies and practices can all impede efforts to diversify the teaching force. This volume comprises original research from Canada, the U.S., Germany, Ireland, Scotland, and England that problematizes issues of diversifying the teaching force and identifies promising practices. A foreword written by Charlene Bearhead of the National Centre for Truth and Reconciliation questions the very purpose of education in and for diverse societies. An introduction written by the editors defines key concepts and establishes a rationale for diversifying the teaching force in migrant-receiving contexts. Following this, key international scholars offer empirical perspectives using a range of methodologies and theories rooted in critical social science paradigms. The volume informs future research, programming, and policy development in this area."“/div>div

Diversified organizations are everywhere - in the private, public and not-for-profit sectors. With diversification comes complication, and if the varied activities of these organizations are not carried out effectively, their very diversity can lead to major inefficiency at best and corporate failure at worst. Diversification Strategy challenges conventional wisdom and establishes a blueprint for successfully managing diversification. Using illuminating case studies such as General Electric, Wesfarmers, Bidvest, ITC and Burns Philip - it analyses the whole process in detail, and describes the seven characteristics of successful diversifiers. Through examining what successful and unsuccessful diversifiers do, as well as the effective practices of focused firms, it provides best-practice guidance for successfully managing diversified organizations and the business units within them. Whether private sector, public sector or not-for-profit, all organizations will all benefit from understanding and applying the principles outlined in this indispensible guide to diversification strategy.

Currently 868 million people are undernourished and 195 million children under five years of age are stunted. At the same time, over 1 billion people are overweight and obese in both the developed and developing world. Diseases previously associated with affluence, such as cancer, diabetes and cardio-vascular disease, are on the rise. Food system-based approaches to addressing these problems that could enhance food availability and diet quality through local production and agricultural biodiversity often fall outside the traditional scope of nutrition, and have been under-researched. As a consequence, there remains insufficient evidence to support well-defined, scalable agricultural biodiversity interventions that can be linked to improvements in nutrition outcomes. Agricultural biodiversity is important for food and nutritional security, as a safeguard against hunger, a source of nutrients for improved dietary diversity and quality, and strengthening local food systems and environmental sustainability. This book explores the current state of knowledge on the role of agricultural biodiversity in improving diets, nutrition and food security. Using examples and case studies from around the globe, the book explores current strategies for improving nutrition and diets and identifies key research and implementation gaps that need to be addressed to successfully promote the better use of agricultural biodiversity for rural and urban populations and societies in transition.
