L’integrazione dei migranti non si esaurisce all’interno della sfera lavorativa. Ma da questa dipende in modo profondo, e per varie ragioni. Primo, l’immigrazione spesso osteggiata nei contesti sociali allargati ma accettata se ricondotta al mondo del lavoro: flessibilità, contenimento dei costi e disponibilità a svolgere professioni marginali accrescono infatti l’interesse per questa frangia di lavoratori. Secondo, il lavoro è centrale nel progetto migratorio, tale da configurare le azioni di crescita professionale come precondizione per una più generale promozione sociale (empowerment). Infine, le caratteristiche strutturali del popolo migrante (giovane età, alta scolarità e occupazione femminile) ne enfatizzano il peso della professione. A partire da una ricerca Equal di taglio etnografico, il libro presenta lo stato dell’arte delle imprese italiane che si confrontano con una forza lavoro multiculturale. Il tema è analizzato nella prospettiva del diversity management, approccio strategico trasversale alle funzioni HR e marketing, con l’obiettivo di tradurre la varietà dell’organico di un’impresa in asset competitivo. Analizzando casi di multinazionali e di PMI italiane ed etniche, si sviluppano riflessioni ad hoc volte a favorire non solo un primo inserimento lavorativo dei migranti (occupabilità), ma una loro progressione nel mondo delle professioni intraprese (adattabilità). What can diversity management offer those concerned with ethnic inequality, racial discrimination, and issues of social and economic inclusion and exclusion? In this book John Wrench traces the emergence of diversity management in the US in the late 1980s, and explores its subsequent development in Europe. I giovani di origine straniera in Italia sono 665.626, una presenza pressoch raddoppiata nel corso degli ultimi 5 anni. E un trend in netta crescita. Si tratta di ragazzi e ragazze cresciuti a cavallo di due culture, incarnate nel nucleo familiare (la pretesa cultura di origine) e nel gruppo dei pari (la cultura italiana). Persone esposte a pressioni relazionali, tensioni identitarie, rappresentazioni mediatiche, incertezze normative che spesso li rendono stranieri nel paese in cui sono nati. Un target di consumatori sinora scarsamente fotografato, ma di crescente rilievo sia sotto il profilo numerico sia per gli effetti innescati a livello di consumi dei coetanei italiani e delle famiglie di origine. Una generazione ponte - cross generation, appunto - che stabilisce connessioni nuove tra una societ monoculturale e un paese che si confronta con le sfide dell'intercultura, anche a livello di mercato.
