If you are a woman going through a tough time, there are plenty of places you can go to for support. There are books, workshops and groups, both on and offline, where you can get the support you need to help you through ... but you're not a woman, you're a man and, as men, we are largely forgotten when it comes to getting help during difficult times. The common misconception is that because we are men, we're not in touch with our emotions. We are the stronger sex, the cavemen, the warriors, the conquerors and heroes, and so it's assumed that we don't need comfort and support and we can just tough it out. But if you're a man going through a divorce, then you know none of that is true because what you're most likely feeling is devastation. The effects of divorce are shown to be worse on the physical and mental health of a man than they are for a woman, and that is a proven fact. A man feels the weight of responsibility deeply. It is in his psyche and it acts like a switch clicking on as he grows, finds a mate, and builds a family. That feeling of responsibility for earning and providing security for his family is primal stuff and the fear of not being able to deliver it is very real. If you're going through a divorce, or you're about to, this is all brought into the open and those feelings are poked and challenged, adding to the lack of control you may be feeling already. This is not my antagonistic view and it's never about us v them, it's about this ... happy confident men and boys' equal happy confident women and girls, and we all need to do our bit to promote that. In the beginning you will feel upset. Divorce is a loss and any loss is sad. You're losing your wife, your family and your whole way of life and this can have a devastating effect on how you see yourself now. It can also seriously affect your ego. Learning to deal with these feelings is important but, even in this day and age when you hear or see articles and information around the after-effects of divorce, the focus is mainly on the women and us men go unnoticed. But don't forget that marriage is a commitment made by two people and they are both responsible for it. There are some options for men out there already, but we're going through a bit of a movement with these things and those groups tend to be run by enlightened men. This makes them all a bit hippy and a bit let's go out into the woods in stripy trousers and bang a bongo. That's not going to work for the ordinary bloke like me and you, and he is not going to don a pair of multi-coloured calf huggers for anyone. The fact is, as a man, you will have to learn how to handle these feelings while at the same time leading your family through the divorce without the breakdown of those relationships. Without the drama and trauma that can affect you, your ex, and your kids for decades to come, if it's not handled properly. This is about stepping into your masculine energy and taking the lead in your divorce for the wellbeing of everyone involved. The ordinary bloke gets that, which is why this book is for him.

I want to congratulate you for taking some time to learn how you can reduce the impact your divorce or separation has on your children. You're obviously someone who cares about your children, and how your children will be impacted during this process. What I'm going to show you is seven steps that I took with my former-wife that you can follow too, which will ensure the psychological damage on your children is kept to a minimum. You will learn how to: * Follow 7 proven steps to reduce the stress and suffering for children in divorce * Avoid painful mistakes which may impact your children's psychological future * Manage changes to the family dynamics and overcome the trauma experienced with separation * Transition to a parental relationship with your former spouse * Prioritise your children - before, during and after your divorce * Support your children to create greater harmony and peace during this traumatic time Around 40% marriages will end in divorce after 12 years and in most of these divorces, there will be children involved - children who are innocently affected by these changes in parental relationships. Sadly, these figures are on the rise and in most instances, there will be 2 or more children involved in the divorce process. But who really suffers the most when a divorce occurs? The wife? The husband? No, it is the children who will be affected most and it can be an extremely emotional time for them. Many children will blame themselves in some way, either consciously or unconsciously, for causing their parents to go their separate ways and this can have a profound impact on them later in life. This book will bring out the best in you and your children, during divorce or separation.

The purpose of this book is to prepare you for divorce, whether you think you will be leaving your spouse soon, or at some time in the future. There are so many women out there trapped in an unhappy marriage with a controlling and manipulating husband. They have little or no access to the money, and they are subjected to any number of forms of abuse. While this book is intended for a primarily female audience, men in unhappy marriages will also find it useful. I was stuck in a miserable marriage for over a decade. I didn't know what to do, how to get out. I wasn't equipped to save myself and take control of my care and future. I am living proof that I successfully divorced my husband. I am independent, self-sufficient and very happy. I survived a lengthy and stressful divorce process. You can, too. Deciding to leave your marriage is a big decision. It is lonely. It is a decision clouded with shame and regret. You will need a great deal of help and you should not be shy about asking for it. I asked for help and to this day I am extremely grateful. My family and friends helped me with advice and support. They recommended and referred professionals. They took care of my children. They came and moved my belongings. And they lent me money. Asking for help shows good self-care. Care about yourself - you're worth it! You can always pay it back, or pay it forward. If people were not willing to help you, they wouldn't offer. There is no need to have any regrets. You are loved. Accept the help. This book is my way of offering to help. It is intended to be small and discreet in size, but powerful and large in its message. You Can, Too should be considered a practical guide to the divorce process, not a self-help book to help you overcome emotional issues. It's meant to be your "go-to" book for divorce. Read through it more than once. Highlight the points that stand out for you. Refer to the sections that apply to your current stage in the process. Keep it in your purse, or under your bed. Hide it from anyone that should not be aware that you are considering a divorce. It's meant to be your secret friend. I was completely ignorant about how to leave my husband and what the divorce process was going to entail. When I asked my husband for a separation, I didn't care. I just wanted out. What unfolded for me turned out to be some of the most difficult, challenging, rewarding, and shocking months of my life. Much of what I learned is not anything that my friends or my lawyer could help me with. That is why I wanted to write down what I learned and share it with you. I have valuable insight and information to share with you. It was not easy to write this book since it brought back so many feelings and memories of a difficult period in my life. I just felt strongly that I had to write down what I learned so that others might benefit from my experience. I hope you benefit from the information in this book. I embarked out on a journey that now has a happy ending and I really want you to know that you can, too.
