One of the world’s leading cultural psychologists debunks the hype surrounding DNA testing and puts to rest our mistaken anxieties about our genes. Do you fear what might be lurking in your DNA? Well, now you can find out, and you most likely will. Scientists expect one billion people to have their genomes sequenced by 2025, and as the price drops it may even become a standard medical procedure. Yet cultural psychologist Steven Heine argues that the first thing we’ll do upon receiving our DNA test results is to misinterpret them completely. We’ve become accustomed to breathless media coverage about newly discovered “cancer” or “IQ” or “infidelity” genes, each one promising a deeper understanding of what makes us tick. But as Heine shows, most of these claims are oversimplified and overhyped misinterpretations of how our DNA really works. With few exceptions, it is a complex combination of experience, environment, and genetics that determines who we are, how we behave, and what diseases will afflict us in the future. So why do we continue to buy into the belief that our genes control our destiny? Heine argues that we are psychologically ill equipped to deal with DNA results, repeatedly falling into predictable biases—switch-thinking, essentialism, fatalism, negativity dominance, and more—that mold our thinking about the information we receive. Heine shares his research—and his own genome-sequencing results—to not only to set the record straight regarding what your genes actually reveal about your health, intelligence, ethnic identity, and family, but to also help you counteract these insidious cognitive traps. His fresh, surprising conclusions about the promise, and limits, of genetic engineering and DNA testing upend conventional thinking and reveal a simple, profound truth: your genes create life—but they do not control it.

The book tells the story of my struggle with Parkinson's disease. At 56, I received advice that I had early stage Parkinson's disease. At that time, I had no idea what the disease meant. My ignorance led me to take the diagnosis lightly – until I had great difficulty moving. My mobility was so impaired that I could not raise myself up on bed. I slept on a mattress spread on the floor. From then on, I was relentless in my resolve to fight the illness. I persisted in my search for a treatment that addressed the molecular mechanisms generating the disease – conventional wisdom notwithstanding. My persistence paid off – I chanced upon the website of Dr Amy Yasko. As far as I know, her protocol is the only one that addresses the molecular mechanisms. How does Parkinson's disease arise? The confluence of three factors – genetic predisposition, microbial load, and toxin load – generates neurological diseases in general – and Parkinson's disease in particular. The factors are jointly necessary but not sufficient separately to express the disease. My illness arose from my specific DNA mutations. My mutations blocked some processes, creating imbalances in intermediates and end-products, thus messing up the machinery in my cells. Toxins – like heavy metals such as mercury, aluminium – blocked some additional processes in my cells, even in the absence of a mutation. Microbes sequestered heavy metals making it difficult for my body to find them in order to eject them. The key mutation of my CBS gene (cystathionine-beta-synthase) started my Parkinson's illness. The mutation is an up-regulation, meaning an increase in the enzyme activity, resulting in ammonia production higher than normal. Because of the mutations in my three other genes, not enough BH4 molecules were available to transform ammonia to harmless urea. Consequently, instead of urea, my body produced peroxynitrites and superoxides – very nasty molecules that lit a “firestorm” in my brain, leading to neuro-degeneration or death to my dopamine-producing neurons. When I was young, my body repair mechanism was efficient and effective in restoring or replacing degenerated or dead neurons in my brain. As I grew older, my repair mechanism began to falter. Meanwhile, the microbial load was increasing – more and more heavy metals escaped detection, while toxins grew in concentration, blocking more and more reaction processes. In the end, my body succumbed to the combined assault from the three forces – genes, microbes, and toxins – resulting in my Parkinson's illness. How does the Yasko protocol work? The protocol bypasses the mutations by using RNAs, as well as other supplements, i.e. putting in by hand the requisite intermediates thus enabling the reaction machinery in our cells to get going again. After a year and three months into the protocol, I began to recover some of my mobility, as well as some of my “brain”. And something more – all of a sudden, I began to think in verse. At age 65, I began writing poetry at the start of my partial recovery. I used my new ability to explain Einstein's insight into reality via the rhymes and rhythms of verse. I published my first book in 2013, entitled “Einstein in Verse: Introduction to Special and General Relativity”. In 2014, I wrote and published five books – a book on life in poetry, three books on stock investing, and this book. Four years into the protocol, my body improved significantly. My “thinking” brain has fully recovered, attested by six books, one in 2013 and five in 2014 – enhanced by a new ability – the ability to think in verse. I feel I added 4o% dopaminergic neurons in my brain, starting at 15%, totalling 55%. Indication of this comes from the reduction in levodopa dosage by 40%. Likewise, my overall mobility improved by 40%, starting at 15%, totalling 55%.I have come a long way – when I could not raise myself up on bed. All indications point to the direction of a fuller recovery.DNA is not Destiny!

How consciousness and quantum energies affect your genetic expression and the development of disease and chronic health conditions • Draws on cellular medicine, genetics, quantum physics, and consciousness studies to define the real underlying mechanisms of disease and how they can be addressed • Explains how consciousness influences quantum DNA to erase the genetic imprint of illness, allowing your body to remember how to function efficiently and effectively • Shares the author’s discoveries that enabled her to successfully heal the cellular dysfunction at the root cause of her cancer, tumors, chronic inflammation, and toxicity • Explores consciousness tools to re-encode DNA and includes detailed scripts for techniques that readers can apply to their own healing journeys Drawing on new advancements in quantum physics, cellular medicine, genetics, and consciousness studies, as well as her own journey of self-healing from a number of challenging health conditions, Althea S. Hawk reveals how you can consciously influence your DNA and re-encode it to improve your health and alter your genetic destiny. Sharing the discoveries that enabled her to successfully heal from her cancer, tumors, toxicity, and inflammatory-related conditions, the author explains how genes are not solely responsible for creating disease. She shows how human physiology interacts with the quantum energies of our external and personal environments and how the resulting information triggers the development and persistence of disease and chronic conditions. We each inherit susceptibilities, but it is our unique experience of these environmental factors, as well as our beliefs, thoughts, and emotions, that alter the way our genes are expressed. Detailing how our DNA is both quantum-energetic and biological-chemical, Hawk explains how your environment and your consciousness influence your quantum DNA, which in turn interacts with your biological DNA. By working directly with energetic information that affects how your quantum and biological DNA communicate, you can alter the expression of your genes by re-encoding the gene sequences on your physical DNA, erasing the imprint of illness and enabling your body to remember how to function properly. Hawk explores consciousness tools and mind-body techniques to re-encode your DNA, such as sound and breathing work, DNA marker removal, recalibration of Akashic information, and cellular communication exercises that readers can apply to their own healing journeys.

In the work "Beyond DNA: The Epigenetic Revolution," we delve into the mysterious and intriguing world of epigenetics, the scientific field that explores how the environment and individual experiences influence the function of our genes without altering their sequence. The book opens a window into the cell, meticulously exploring the molecular mechanisms that govern gene activation and silencing. We discover that our DNA is not a fixed destiny but a dynamic and mutable canvas, influenced by factors such as diet, stress, relationships, and even exposure to chemicals in the environment. The author delves into the latest research and discoveries that link epigenetics to diseases like cancer, neurological disorders, and heart diseases. It also explores the epigenetic implications behind behaviors and tendencies, demonstrating how the experiences of past generations can affect present and future generations. In addition to the biological mechanisms, the book examines how epigenetics is revolutionizing our approach to medical research, offering new perspectives on personalized treatments and preventive strategies. It debates the importance of balancing genetics and epigenetics, and how the harmony between these two worlds may hold the key to optimal health. The "Epigenetic Revolution" not only unveils the mysteries of the biology underlying our existence but also raises ethical and philosophical questions about our place in nature and the boundless potential of human life. An essential work for anyone fascinated by science, medicine, and the profound nature of human beings.

The Epigenetics Revolution written by Nessa Carey and has been published by Columbia University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2012-03-06 with Science categories.

Epigenetics can potentially revolutionize our understanding of the structure and behavior of biological life on Earth. It explains why mapping an organism's genetic code is not enough to determine how it develops or acts and shows how nurture combines with nature to engineer biological diversity. Surveying the twenty-year history of the field while also highlighting its latest findings and innovations, this volume provides a readily understandable introduction to the foundations of epigenetics. Nessa Carey, a leading epigenetics researcher, connects the field's arguments to such diverse phenomena as how ants and queen bees control their colonies; why tortoiseshell cats are always female; why some plants need cold weather before they can flower; and how our bodies age and develop disease. Reaching beyond biology, epigenetics now informs work on drug addiction, the long-term effects of famine, and the physical and psychological consequences of childhood trauma. Carey concludes with a discussion of the future directions for this research and its ability to improve human health and well-being.
