Bed bugs are tiny blood-sucking creatures and their bite can be nasty!Bed bugs hide very well on beds and sides of mattresses. They can also get in your clothes, shoes, clothes hampers, linens, books and other stuff. Bed bugs are so tiny that they "re not easily visible to the naked eye. Almost always you "ll know they "re there only after they "ve bitten you. Bed bug bites look like multiple mosquito bites contained in one area of the skin. They are commonly small and red, but they can get bigger if your skin is allergy-prone. Bed bug bites don "t really hurt at all. But, they can be annoyingly itchy. It can become very discomforting that you can "t stop scratching. The constant scratching can cause skin irritation which in turn can lead to an infection. The most effective way to treat bed bugs is to prevent an infestation. So, if you suspect you have bed bugs in your home, do a thorough inspection of the areas they commonly hide in immediately. Dust the beds. Change the linens. Check the linings of mattresses if you see any red-brown spots because those are the signs that bed bugs are living in there. Check cracks and crevices. Move furniture around and do a thorough sweep of your entire house. That will get them moving.Get more tips for getting rid of bed bugs so you can clean up your home properly and keep it bed-bug free all the time.

If the question occurs to you after waking up one morning with multiple itchy areas on your body, the likelihood is that you were bitten by bed bugs during the night. So, what are bed bugs? To address the uncomfortable topic, bed bugs are simply insects. However, bed bugs, like the millions of other insect species, have their unique individuality. They would not be forgotten in the department of identification. Begin with a scientific perspective. Cimex lectularius is the scientific name for bed bugs. They are members of the ever-expanding and diverse kingdom, or phylum, of Insecta. Did you know that if the world ever comes to an end, all things on Earth, including humans and animals, will be annihilated? By that time, all but one sort of creature will have vanished. You are correct. Insects will be permitted to occupy the earth due to their adaptability and resilience. Among them are bed bugs. That is why eradicating them will be a difficult task.

Bed bugs are thriving across the globe--from North and South America, to Africa, Asia and Europe. For some time, bed bugs were naively seen as a problem unique to developing countries, but their love of high thread content sheets has set them up in five-star residences in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, and other parts of Europe as well. Bed Bugs were first noticed in society by Americans in the early 1700 s. Many believe sailboats returning from Europe unknowingly carried the bugs as cargo, as sailors complained of being attacked as they slept in their cabins. With the introduction of DDT in the 1950s, bed bugs nearly disappeared. But when DDT was banned in the 1970 s, a wave of super bed bugs rejoiced. Now, up to 25% of residents in some cities have reported problems with the pests, bordering on epidemic levels. In fact, history has never seen such widespread and intense bed bug infestations. Our propensity for travel has left bed bugs with enviable frequent flyer status too. Following the Sydney Olympics, for example, and the thousands of visitors to Australia, it was estimated that the bed bug occupancy rate in Sydney hotels was 95%. In "Sleep Tight, "Brooke Borel introduces readers to the biology of these amazingly adaptive insects which can travel over 100 foot distances at night--and the myriad ways in which humans respond to them. She travels to meet with scientists who are rearing bed bug colonies on their own blood-- to the BedBug University, to swank apartments on the upper East Side of Manhattan. She explores the history of bed bugs, and their near extinction, charting how current infestations are in direct response to human chemical use. She also introduces us to the economics of bed bug infestations, and the industry that has arisen to combat that. This is the first history and natural history of bed bugs, and it leaves few exoskeletons unturned."
