What is global leadership? It turns out that many companies around the world are missing a key point: that global leadership is distinctly different from the leadership skills needed in a domestic operation. The global economy requires a new set of leadership skills-imbued with a global mindset, multi-functional and effective across cultures and nationalities-that were not as critical even a decade ago. In What Is Global Leadership?, the authors draw on cutting-edge research conducted by Aperian Global, including first-hand interviews with successful global leaders, which highlights ten key behaviors critical to international settings, such as cultural self-awareness, frame-shifting, and developing "third-way solutions." In addition to providing a detailed description of each behavior, the authors demonstrate how these can be applied in the context of leadership development programs, executive coaching, global teams, and leader-led action learning. Whether one is leading an entire organization, a business unit, or a geographically dispersed team, this essential guide provides an important resource for developing global leadership talent.

Global Crises And The Crisis Of Global Leadership written by Stephen Gill and has been published by Cambridge University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2011-10-20 with Political Science categories.

This groundbreaking collection on global leadership features innovative and critical perspectives by scholars from international relations, political economy, medicine, law and philosophy, from North and South. The book's novel theorization of global leadership is situated historically within the classics of modern political theory and sociology, relating it to the crisis of global capitalism today. Contributors reflect on the multiple political, economic, social, ecological and ethical crises that constitute our current global predicament. The book suggests that there is an overarching condition of global organic crisis, which shapes the political and organizational responses of the dominant global leadership and of various subaltern forces. Contributors argue that to meaningfully address the challenges of the global crisis will require far more effective, inclusive and legitimate forms of global leadership and global governance than have characterized the neoliberal era.

The type of global leadership described in the five principles of this book is effective in any organization. Of course the context changes, but how you manage the context and complexities will determine the effectiveness of your leadership. Working with global organizations, I see the main obstacle to being a successful global leader is the inability to develop a clear strategy. Most of the leaders I work with have a good understanding of managing and following a task or directive, but few truly have the ability to create a strategic plan in which they identify local challenges and create global opportunities. Why do many leaders have difficulty developing into global leaders? This issue involves a good deal of complexity. What makes global leadership so complex? Is it the cross-cultural communication or the ability to develop a global mindset? Although the answer to both questions is yes, they are not the main reasons. The complexity of global leadership is most obvious when leaders have to make strategic decisions for an organization that has a diverse background of followers and the context is filled with crisis and conflict.

Global Leadership Talk written by Zane Goebel and has been published by Oxford University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2020-02-28 with Political Science categories.

How do certain ideas and practices become socially valued in particular times and places? Why do we see some countries as having better governance or leadership than others? In Global Leadership Talk, Zane Goebel addresses these questions through a study of leadership language in the uniquely diverse post-colonial nation of Indonesia. This book examines global flows of ideologies about leadership and good governance, how these ideologies are localized in Indonesia, and how all of this related to changing political, bureaucratic, and market regimes in Indonesia between 1998 and 2004. Drawing on five months of fieldwork and a corpus of hundreds of online newspaper articles regarding the Indonesian bureaucracy, Goebel analyzes how leadership ideas expressed in the early twenty-first century have been re-used and redefined in the media-and most importantly, how and why these ideas were received and believed in local face-to-face talk in the Indonesian civil service. Deftly engaging with decades of theoretical innovation, from indexicality to enregisterment, from globalization to superdiversity, Goebel moves beyond his empirical analysis to argue for a new methodology that constantly moves between data from different times and places. Both concretely and conceptually, Goebel shows how communicative events are connected, how this impacts the gathering and interpretation of data, and how this approach is key for understanding the sociolinguistic complexity of today's world.
